The hosts were amazing helping arranging car rental, even though we were late with booking. Delicious homemade meals made with local produce giving a real taste of Yakushima. The location was really great with things to explore and experience in both directions from the pension. The house was beautiful, and there was really nice glass art and drawings made by Yuki (host) through out the pension. The hosts were eager to share tips about things to do, depending on the weather. We have nothing negative to say about this gem in Yakushima. 10/10!

From the moment we arrived, everything about the experience felt thoughtful, refined, and genuinely warm. The setting is stunning and peaceful, the rooms are beautifully designed and immaculately maintained, and every detail reflects a level of quality and care that is truly world-class. The service deserves special mention! Attentive without being intrusive, sincere, and consistently excellent throughout our stay. Dining was outstanding, with beautifully prepared meals that showcased both quality ingredients and creativity. After full days exploring Yakushima, returning to Sankara felt like coming back to a sanctuary - calm, comfortable, and deeply relaxing. I regret not noting the sommelier’s name, but would love to give a special shout-out for his attentiveness and excellent pairings (alcohol and non-alcohol), thoughtfully tailored for both me and my son. This was one of the best hotel experiences we’ve ever had. Highly recommended in every aspect, and we would not hesitate to return.

In der Unterkunft gibt es drei Zimmer: zwei für Gäste und eines für den Besitzer. Bad, Küche und Esszimmer werden gemeinsam genutzt. Zwei E-Bikes können gemietet werden – was ich besonders empfehle, wenn man kein geübter Radfahrer ist. Die Insel ist sehr hügelig, und mit einem normalen Radl bekommt man schnell ‚Stahlhaxn‘. Bei der Hitze kann man dabei leicht ins Schwitzen kommen. Bei Ryozi fühlt man sich wie bei einem Besuch bei der Oma – echte Gastfreundschaft wie früher. Er ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Und angesichts der Mengen an Essen, die er zubereitet, sollte man mit einer exponentiellen Gewichtszunahme rechnen.

I really liked the couple that run the place. They keep it so clean and the community room is very user-friendly. It was comfortable as a solo female traveler. It’s a great location, easy to walk to the airport, grocery store, and restaurants. I would definitely stay again.

We had an amazing stay! The glamping site is peaceful, right by the river, with beautiful views and nature all around. It’s perfect for relaxing or being active. The place is pet-friendly—we stayed with our cat, and the owners’ dog was super cute and friendly. The owners and staff were kind and helpful, giving great tips about local activities. The room was spacious, clean, and well-designed, with a lovely walk-in shower. We loved the terrace and small garden for privacy and views. The outdoor shower was great after exercise. Breakfast and picnic options were delicious. Wish we could’ve stayed longer! Highly recommend for couples, families, or friends.

It was very much a home-style setting & even large by Japanese standards! Great location with easy access to bus and tram lines and plenty of dining options all in walking distance. We loved being in a residential neighborhood and our host was fantastic!

A beautiful house, very convenient location, and wonderful host. The house has tatami floors and sliding panel walls, so it feels very traditional yet also has modern fixtures, a full kitchen and a laundry machine. It’s a 5 minute walk from the ferry, making an excellent base of operation. Mrs. Iwashita speaks very good English and communicated well so that we could drop off our luggage before check-in time. She also helped us find a rental car. We originally planned to stay in a hotel and I’m glad we didn’t. This house made our time on Tanegashima special and memorable.

Die Unterkunft 一棟貸しの移住案内古民家 itoma verfügt über Gartenblick und Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten mit einem Garten und einer Terrasse, ungefähr 20 km von Arangachi Waterfall entfernt. Sehr netter Gastgeber, alles ist da. Von Taucherbrille bis Zahnbürsten, alles kein Problem. Mehr als man eigentlich braucht. Es sieht fast so aus als wenn ein Freund einem die bewohnte Wohnung überlässt. Wir hatten noch nie so eine tolle Unterkunft als diese. Wer also auf Sauberkeit und Ruhe wert legt, der hat hier alles gefunden was er braucht. Eigentlich geht es nicht besser!
