The hotel is about 20 min walk from the train station but they have a free shuttle which made it perfectly convenient. It was absolutely worth being slightly further away as the hotel is located on a small cove which feels like you have private access to the sea and gives beautiful views from the rooms! There is an indoor and outdoor onsen (natural hot spring baths) both with lovely views and a comfortable temperature, with complimentary amenities. We had breakfast and one dinner at the hotel and everything was delicious, generous portions with attention given to seasonal and local produce. They were also able to cater to our dietary requirements (pescatarian and scallop allergy) well. At one point one of our party suffered a burn (NOT the hotel’s fault) and the staff were so helpful in providing us what we needed and were very kind.

The owner was really friendly and chatted for quite a while. Location was only 11 minutes from Nachi Falls by car and easy to find from the expressway. Room was cosy, clean and was as expected.

The host was super friendly and hospitable. Amazing homemade ramen and sushi were served with heart. Very organized and spotless in the house we live in, which looks like a restaurant turned accommodation - but comfy enough! With such good price, this went well above exceptional! A haven of peace, comfort after a hard hike on the kumano. Ura-san was the perfect host, kind, patient and willing to drive the extra mile to fetch us and drop us off. Everything about this accomodation was beyond my expectations. We arrived to a beautiful traditional room, guided to a private room for a wonderful evening vegetarian meal, and then walked the town until close of the temple. The futons were soft and comfortable, the room showed us how easy it would be to live under these conditions. Slept through the prayer session at the temple (unfortunately) at 6am but the breakfast was another marvellous meal in our private dining room.

Honestly everything was amazing. Great building, view, facilities, bedrooms, common room, clean and the price is ridiculously good. The host went above and beyond, driving me to the convenience store and bus station early in the morning, and sharing a beer with me in the evening and gave me the best restaurant recommendation. Location very good for Nachi Taisha too.

What a lovely stay I had here. I got drunk before dinner and then staggered into the most incredible feast I've ever had. This town lands a large amount of the tuna that comes into Japan, and they had such a variety and skill with it in the restaurant. Incredible sakē, great quality fish, good sized room. A genuine delight.

Cave onsens were fun. Food was good but didn't vary although as we stayed 3 nights we received treats at dinner on nights 2 and 3. Shuttle service was efficient, both by boat and minibus. Room view over the harbour was entertaining.

Better than expected from the reports of a dated hotel. Clean, large Japanese room with a view of the bay and great cave onsen overlooking the sea. Nice ride in ferry to and from Hotel. Dinner and breakfast left nothing to be desired, such variety. The tuna available from the fish market is outstanding and so affordable. A most pleasant stay.

The staff, firstly. A bit of a language barrier but so helpful. The guesthouse is just lovely. You get a real rustic feel. Extra padded mattresses too. There is an onsen on site and, you can book to have a traditional Japanese breakfast too. Be sure to visit the owner’s restaurant next door. The tuna is epic! We enjoyed 2 nights here to see Nachi Katsuura waterfall and we loved the sleepy town. You’ll have a relaxed stay here.

What I liked may be what you won’t: this place is aging. Like rural Japan, it’s has remained almost unchanged since the bubble burst in 1990ish and so, this is time travel in another era, the Showa era when Japan was booming. Long, odd tunnels that connect onsens and 4 buildings built atop a rocky island, man, this is Sean Connery’s James Bond material. Our view over the ocean was spectacular and for that alone, I would have stayed longer. Not to expensive either.
