Location was absolutely fantastic and only a short drive to the Shirakawago heritage sites. The onsens were also lovely and the surroundings were quite special. Rooms were spacious and comfortable and we had a great view from the room. All the ryokan esque facilities (lounge wear, free beverages etc) all topped it off. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area.

This was the nicest stay ata hotel I have had in Japan, and one of my top stay experiences ever - and I travel a lot - over 100 countries so far. The room was impeccable - traditional yet comfortable for Westerners, with Westen style beds, with a lovely view. The private onsen was designer standard - wouldn’t be out of place in an interior design magazine- and unbelievable view over the river. The food - unbelievable - all local ingredients and even the liquor on offer either home made or local - simple but tasting fantastic. And perhaps the best part are the staff - a true family business and everyone so kind and helpful. Felt like staying with friends rather than a commercial property. I can’t recommend it enough. Simply world class.

Loved this place. New build so everything very modern. Comfortable room. Great bathroom. Very helpful staff member who cleans the rooms and speaks good English. Self checkin clearly explained so not an issue. Wifi was good contrary to some reviews. About a 15 minute walk from the village. 10 minutes to convenience store. Excellent restaurant nearby open until 9pm with lots of vegetarian and vegan options. Tenkara Shirakawa. Good parking. Book it!

We had a fantastic stay at this apartment. Everything was spotless and very well organized – you could tell great care is taken to keep it clean and comfortable. The location was ideal, close to everything we needed, with easy access to public transport and key attractions. We had a fantastic stay. The house was great and the family where such lovely host. If you don’t go there you really miss an opportunity. The whole family made our stay an event to remember. The venue is one of a kind and absolutely worth the 30m trip from Takayama. You really feel like traveling back in time. We experienced how little it takes to have a great childhood and astonishing beautiful environment. We can only recommend the place. Special thanks to Chie to explain us so much and to show us around not to speak of the wonderful food. Special thanks to Satoshi for the smoked fish, so tasty and tender. We really loved our stay here! Our hostess was darling and her home a charming country stay. It was a lovely treat to discover the hot bath tub to use after showering for a somewhat Onsen-like experience. The fish cooking around the fire, the hot water bottles and kerosene heaters really take you out of modern life. The futons were the most comfortable we slept on in two trips to Japan. The silence of Ainokura at night magical! We arrived by bus, it was just a short walk from the highway to the village. As we arrived just before 3 from Kanazawa we could check in and explore at our leisure enjoying just birdsong and rushing water.
