Arrived during a massive storm- power off through whole of North Island. Staff anticipated issues and mitigated. Water remained hot and we hunkered down and went through the week fine.

The suite dubbed "stand-alone" was ideal for me. I was mesmerized as just how close to the water that the deck was - I could hear waves lapping on the rocks with the sliding door closed. The queen bed was clean and comfortable and the suite well-equipped. An updated hot plate negated any real need for a stove - there isn't space for one anyway. Full washroom. Good enough internet and a great TV.
A useful selection of literature weeks before your stay re:suggested hikes etc. is easily accessed. Your Host is very responsive and will send you a text with tips. ie. Bikes for rent locally and how to utilize the ferry strategically and cheaply. I had 6 sailings for a grand total of $11.60. ie. Any travel between islands is technically free.
And, ... the drinking water is just fine.

Loved the cosy cabin, had all we needed for our 1 night stay, fabulous views and a great location for the ferry port. Would recommend.

Port Hardy is a seaport and connection point to the ferry service to more northern islands and coastal communities along BC's coast all the way to Prince Rupert. It is small, Indigenous-run community that has considerable services and courteous and competent staff at each point of service we experienced.

Port Hardy is central to many hiking trails and booking boat trips. Lots of good restaurants. I just wish that it would be possible to book half days fishing trips (only full days were available which is not ideal if you are afraid of the sea or this is your first boat trip).

Having an oceanside hotel was wonderful to see the tide ebbing and flowing, plus the eagles and seals. People we met in the town were very personable. Unfortunately, the Visitor Centre was closed on Saturday and Sunday, which was most upsetting because they had the Port Hardy T-shirts that we wanted for souvenirs. The Port Hardy Heritage Society in the museum and the West Coast Community Craft Shop were great places to procure some wonderful souvenirs.
