We absolutely loved the private and homelike feel. Tucked away on the back road but super close to all that we needed. Last minute, we requested an extra night’s stay and the staff were so accomodating and helpful in making this happen. Staff were fast to respond and made us feel incredibly welcome. We will be booking Atupa Suites on our next Rarotonga stay.

The manager picked us up at the airport around noon, he did a great job making sure we had everything we needed, including best restaurant for that evening. He was very helpful and attentive. The property has a great restaurant for breakfast and lunch, and a very large swimming pool. Located within walking distance from town and the wharf.

Beautiful area where you can get to everything simply by driving. Shipwreck hut in Araroa. Aorangi fish / chips. Palace burgers. Rarotonga bakery. Would highly recommend @Tumutours across the road for an authentic cultural experience, combined with delicious food and entertainment.

Kia Ora, Avarua was a beautiful island that was easy to navigate, friendly people and awesome weather. If you like a slower pace, relaxing vacation, no hustle and bustle of traffic with a small island feel then Avarua in the Cook Islands is a definite place to visit. I suggest the Umi experience, very educational and delicious food. Definitely visit the Muri Night market daily from 5 to 9, but they are closed Friday and Saturday. Saturday Punanganui Market is awesome. Exploring and sightseeing is a great experience.

I advice people to rent a car or a scooter if they can afford it.
If you plan to use the bus, a ten trip ticket costs $35, or $5 for a single trip.
If you can, do the turtle watching with a water scooter.
The one day Aitutaki trip is brilliant
Visit Punanganui Market for the tropical fruits and local produce
You have to be early to get maroro

Reflection is a beautiful and relaxing stay.
Reflection is a beautiful and relaxing stay. You have options to cool down from a beautiful private pool or the ocean within a few steps from your doors. Weather was not on my side but that did not stop me from having the best swim ever. I highly recommend this place.

This is a good area, it's not to busy with tourist. You might feel your left out from all the fun places. But if you have your own transport or you don't mind using the public transport then your not far from anything at all.
Your on the right side of the island for the sunset, go next door and have a drink at the resort bar on the beach while the sun sets in front of you.

Had a great time, I worked when there was no wind and went kite boarding when there was. The beaches there are beautiful with three different locations for kiting and a whole island if your not. for kiting, depending on wind direction, any one of them is an awesome place to kite.
If you don't kite and you just want an awesome holiday near a beautiful beach, I couldn't recommend it more. Other islands within the Cook Islands offer great options, but cost more. If budget is an issue, then there is plenty to do on Raro and you will still experience the beauty of the tropical islands.

Friendliness of the people of Rarotonga certainly made our stay even better. We ventured down to the local RSA and were warmly welcomed. The markets are everything you hear about -totally worthy of at least two trips
We found the dogs pretty friendly but best to avoid going up backroads where they are quite possessive of their properties (fair enough) The roosters of course come with the island and so be prepared for early morning wake-ups!! The amount of terrific food joints is like HEAVEN! There is a wide variety along the roadsides and in town. The beaches are great and safe in the lagoon. Excellent day trips on Koka Lagoon tours (highly recommended) and terrific Cultural night at Te Vara Nui Village. We were there for Vaka Eiva race event where my son was paddling; this was absolutely a place to be - down at Trader Jacks when crew would start & finish their races! Another note -PLEASE be kind to the dogs - Rarotonga people care for them very much
ANOTHER note - Rarotongan Bakery near the Oasis garage is TOP~~

Beautiful beaches, just be mindful not to swim on Saturdays as it is their Sabbath day (head to Nikau beach on that day 😊)
Wigmores is a few minutes away, cheap ice cream and donuts, hot meals too.
Bring ear plugs if you’re a light sleeper, the roosters love to serernade the place all day long lol

My partner and I personally feel that Arorangi is better than the Muri area. The roads are a bit rougher and less maintained, but the lagoon and snorkelling is by far superior!
We loved hanging out at the Aroa Marine Reserve which is by The Rarotongan Beach Resort & Spa. We swam with turtles almost every day - they just cruise past you. PLEASE DO NOT touch the turtles and respect their space - we always stayed at least an arms length from them or further away.
I was sad to leave Rarotonga, we were there for 11 nights and it was just right. Not too long, not too short.
The water seems way saltier than NZ water. The water quality is great and so clear in some places. The temperature of the water - WOW!!! Pretty warm and it was amazingly pleasant to swim in there. We went middle of March and it was perfect.
Please never forget to apply reef-friendly sunblock even on your face as the UV rays can reflect on your face in the water. I burnt my face the first day I went snorkelling and the back of my legs - I learnt fast.
The sun is not as harsh as the NZ sun though.
