Featuring garden views, Sigiri Siesta Homestay offers accommodation with terrace, around 3.4 km from Sigiriya Rock. This was one of the best homestays we have stayed in. Mahesh and his family welcomed us into their home- he told us all about the area, advice for sightseeing, and local traditions. We had delicious breakfasts of eggs, dahl, and fresh fruit. Mahesh helped us to organise tuktuks and taxis to different locations. The room was non-AC but very comfortable with the ceiling fan. Thank you Mahesh!

Located within 3.4 km of Sigiriya Rock and 6.6 km of Pidurangala Rock in Sigiriya, Manju Homestay offers accommodation with seating area. Manju and his family were perfect hosts, which made the stay very lovely. When I arrived, room was already cooled down by A/C which shows great customer care. Room is simple, but clean and everything you need. I also liked this "jungle" vibe. I couldn't expect better price/quality ratio. Manju also took me to Pidurangala rock for a small fee at 5am. There is extremely good place to eat just a few mins away (Kaluwara). Breakfast was lovely too. I highly recommend this place!

Situated within 3.7 km of Sigiriya Rock and 6.8 km of Pidurangala Rock in Sigiriya, Gangadiya Lodge features accommodation with seating area. We had a fantastic time at Gangadiya Lodge! The whole family was extremely welcoming and took great care of us, providing us with excellent recommendations for restaurants and trips. Breakfast was delicious, and the garden was amazingly beautiful with a lovely pool for cooling off in. It's a very peaceful place, away from the main road. But everything is easily accessible.
Sigiriya is stunning and has a lovely village charm to it, compared to the tourist/backpacker mecca that is Ella. There are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from but it somehow doesn't detract and Sigiriya still feels very local and true to SL values.
A nice hike to view a breathe taking view. If anyone should travel to Sigiriya they should start to climb the rock at 5.30am as the ticket counters open. Wearing proper hiking or workout clothes would be the best.
There is so much more to do in this area than I realised. I will definitely come back. The area is beautiful and we were sad to leave. We dud Pidurangala Rock which was fun, more of an adventurous climb than Lions Rock. It has incredible views of Lions Rock. We also did a safari in Minneriya National Park. The park was beautiful and we saw so many elephants plus lots of varieties of birds, golden jackals, monkees, mongoose, the grizzled giant squirrel, buffalo and jungle foul. We also went to Dambula Temple Caves which is very spiritual and Luckgrove Spice Gardens which was an incredible experience. Highly recommend this area.
I’ll never forget the day we spent climbing Sigiriya. And no wonder such a wonderful World Heritage Site kept popping up everywhere: Test it against the massive old fortress, the gorgeous frescoes, and images taken of landscapes from the summit, and there you’ll pick one of Sri Lanka’s greatest treasures. Not an easy or casual climb but certainly one that throws panoramic views so very far worth it and lucid into history at every step. Water gardens at the bottom quite worth a visit. One has to get there at dawn to avoid numerous tourists and scorching sun. Thus, in general, Sigiriya is a combination of artistic creation, engineering work of antiquity, and a miracle of nature, and a must-see site in Sri Lanka.
The weather is very calm. Recommended time to start climb is 5.45 AM. So worthy to watch the surroundings from top of the Sigiriya. You can learn a lot about Sigiriya. You can get a guide if you want from the entrance.
Lions rock is great, we thoroughly enjoyed it. We stayed for two nights in the end as we got to sigiriya late. This meant we ate dinner one night at the little hut which wass great, climbed the rock, then moved on to the habarana which was also interesting to wander and eat.
