Offering self-contained accommodation surrounded by lovely gardens, Poinciana Cottages are 7 minutes’ walk from Burnt Pine’s shops and restaurants. Jackie was there to greet us and explain everything. Plus recommendations for shopping/meals. The free Island orientation tour the next morning an unexpected bonus. Nice quiet location by the airport. Two great restaurants within easy walking distance. Everything you needed was in the cottage. The included rental car meant we could drive around the island as we wanted.

Featuring sea views, Coast Norfolk Island features accommodation with patio, around 2.5 km from Bumbora Beach. This apartment offers free private parking and free shuttle service. Where do we start? I suppose having Rocky waiting for us to check in; very unusual and very most appreciated. Your accommodation and staff are very polite, pleasant and welcoming. They made our visit relaxing and were there to guide/support us without annoying us. (Hard to achieve both but you did it). The villa we stayed in was well appointed and very clean. The views from the verandah were amazing. At first the Wi-Fi only at the rotunda was disconcerting but we soon realised the pleasure in not checking e-mails and other crap every half hour or so. Overall a 12 out of ten.

Located in Burnt Pine, Daydreamer Apartments offers accommodation with a patio. Both free WiFi and parking on-site are available at the apartment free of charge. Super nice apartment! Everything you needed was there: kitchen supplies, good Internet, laundry, comfortable bed, good hot water. At night it’s absolutely dead quiet! Included with the accommodation was a free half-day tour of the island, which was really well done! You’re in walking distance to a decent grocery store, cafes, and restaurants. Since I only had a small rucksack, I could easily walk to/from the airport. Glad I came and next time I’ll certainly book a longer stay!

Locals are friendly. A good range of shops. Great little cafes and eating options. Everything you need is there. It's the hub. There's history and breathtaking views on every turn. For a place with such history, it's very quiet and evokes such a sense of peace and calm. A great place to slow down and recharge.
The township was lovely but lost in time! There were a lot of empty shops and businesses so it is fair to say that the economy is struggling . The LeaguesClub had excellent food as did the Hilli cafe at the cyclorama. This was the best attraction and very moving emotionally . The ghost dinner was just ok. The ghost actress was awesome but the content a little poor. Meal OK ! Baileys restaurant had excellent service but my pasta was undercooked so I couldn’t eat it. $$$$ but lovely ambience . The penal colony tour was interesting and the history very sad. The most brutal penal colony of the entire British empire. Captain cook monument was very well maintained and fab views. The feral roosters on the island are a menace. We had 7 nights of broken sleep due to the crowing of the roosters . Beware of the wildlife cows which wander freely around the entire island . Omg!
There is a lot of interesting history on the island. The locals care very much for their environment, everything is clean and well cared for. We came home refreshed and looking forward to another visit someday. We recommend the fish fry night if you like fish 😀
Be prepared for things to be expensive given that everything needs to be brought in either by boat or plane. Pay attention when the shops open and close as times and days vary. Olive Cafe was great and also enjoyed the Helm Cafe.
The sense of history pervades the island, and you soon get the feeling of how remote and isolated Norfolk is. With only 2200 permanent residents, it has a great friendly feel to it, including the custom of waving to every passing car. There are a number of superb restaurants and tours which can fill a week easily. Surprisingly there are a number of shops worth visiting with competitive pricing vs. Sydney or Brisbane. Hiring a car is a must. The island roads are full of potholes (even the potholes have potholes!) and speed is limited to 30 to 50 kph. The island is absolutely spectacular - wonderful beaches, cliffs, and historic landmarks. Norfolk's place in history with Captain Cook, Bligh, the Bounty, and a brutal penal colony set the backdrop to a memorable visit. The golf course is only 9 holes (played twice off separate tees for 18) is magnificent. The fish fry night is not to be missed - best fish I have ever eaten. The Bounty Museum is worth a few hours of browsing with an amazingly eclectic collection of memorabilia. One word of warning. The tourism is dominated by very senior Australians - possibly an average age of 75. We only met one young couple in the entire week. But everyone is so laid back and friendly it hardly mattered. And a word for Brisbane International Airport - you need to lift your game. Abysmal organisation, 1 hour 45 to check in and clear immigration, about the same on return with about 1,000 people lined up for customs. It bookended what was otherwise a great week. Heaven help us when the Olympics arrive! Overall, Norfolk Island is great place, relaxing, historic, memorable.
A very relaxed friendly place to visit. Interesting history and historic sites. Lovely scenery. All easily accessible. Maybe not the place for those seeking a highly active or adrenaline charged holiday Bounty museum was a great collection of the stories related to the island. Wonderful restaurants. Good shopping - mostly within walking distance (essentially one long strip). Groceries are variable in availability and price, due to transport issues, but good size supermarket and a number of smaller outlets. Travelled in November - temperature lovely, just hit a humid patch, so a little uncomfortable mid afternoon.
