Ubon is a quite pleasant city for walking.
Ubon is a quite pleasant city for walking. Almost all of the main attractions are on the small area. Vegetarian restaurant Boon Niyon Uthayan on Thanon Srinarong. Wat Thung Si Meuang is worth to visit.

We only had one night, but, had a very nice meal at Ubon Tap & Taste, plus they had a great selection of beers. Saw quite few places we would have liked to visit, we will go again for a long weekend, stay at same hotel, great value.

Big city and nice people, a lot of attractions to see nearby. I rent a car with driver to Pha Taem National Park, to see the ancient rock paintings and well as mushroom shaped rocks. It costs me 2400B for a day. However, if you can speak Thai, it would be much more convenient. I am Chinese, can speak English but not Thai. You can seldom find a local who can speak English, not to say Chinese. Most restaurant menus are only in Thai, so try to find those with pictures. A translate app really helps. May come back after I learn more Thai.

It's a large town and we barely scrathed the surface in...
It's a large town and we barely scrathed the surface in 2.5 days there. Great temples, quirky converted shops downtown and quite a few interesting bars. Not many western expats and/or tourists around, but that just added to the genuine feel of the place. We drove out to Pha Taem national park to view the 3000 year old cliff painting overlooking the Mekong River. Would definitely recommend doing that. We will be looking into some of the other national parks in the area, next time we're in town. Oh and we were there in late October and were pleasantly surprised at how cool if was, especially afer dark. Very refreshing!

Ubon is a nice city if you have plenty of time traveling...
Ubon is a nice city if you have plenty of time traveling around. Rent a motorbike or navigate by taxi in the city (cheap and they turn on the meter). Some nice places to visit for one or two days. For shopping it's a good city as well.

Ubon has many interesting places, both in the city and close by. Would particularly recommend Sirindhorn Dam and the lake front resorts. Golf course there very beautiful. Also visit the Mekong river at Kemerat city.
