Beach Hotels in Matei

We loved our stay with Sarah and Sam, their home cooking was the best food we had in Fiji - it was a feast every night. This is not a luxury resort by any means and nor should it be, but it was perfectly clean and very comfortable and has a beautiful snorkelling spot nearby. Sam also took us to do the amazing Lavena coastal walk. Taveuni is a beautiful island and we had a wonderful stay at Aeroview.

everything was amaaazing. location, facility, peaceful and quiet. the view👌was breathtaking. the host were very awsome, made us felt like home, so funny, and helpful to our every need. thank you Knox and Kelera. it was a trip to remember👌

Breakfast was very good and we could choose from a list of food, from pancakes to eggs, including muesli and fruit.

Stayed at four different resorts across Fiji as part of our honeymoon and this was probably our favourite. Small enough to really care, it's a beautiful, private resort with very friendly, approachable staff embedded in the local community. There's loads to do, decent food (catering fairly well for vegetarians), and all for a reasonable price.

This is THE place to stay at if you go to Taveuni. It's really well located, close to dive centers / rainbow reef and it's easy to take the bus to go to Bouma to do the Lavena and Tavoro waterfall hikes. The rooms are surrounded by beautiful nature, the pool is great and the food very tasty. If you're traveling solo, you might meet other like minded people as it's the only place with a dorm. The best thing about the lodge is the staff, who will make you feel welcomed and looked after during your whole stay and who will share more about their culture if you take the time to chat to them. Be sure to try kava and listen to the beautiful music Kali plays every evening. Also they run a morning boat ride to try and see dolphins (couldn't see them when I went but you get to snorkel too) . What did I like? Where do I start? I liked...no, I loved every minute of my stay at Maqai. It is as close to paradise as I'll allow my pragmatic mind to entertain. From the relative remoteness to the natural beauty, the super-relaxed atmosphere to the genuine warmth of the staff, this is a very special place. More of a traveller vibe than that of the well-worn tourist path of the islands closer to Nadi. Slightly rustic? Sure, but only in the best possible way. Cathy (manager) ran as tight a ship as possible on a tropical island in the Pacific. She was welcoming and prompt with her email replies to my questions regarding all the various water sports and cultural experiences on the island. In no particular order, the following staff members quickly began to feel like old friends...Navo, Etta, Sala, Emosi, Soni, Tui, Junior, Jale, Johnny, Mama's Soke & Luce, Netta and Suki (four legged and furry). They all exude such an authentically friendly yet service oriented approach to their individual roles. I can't speak highly enough of how they looked after me. It is up to you how much or how little activity you schedule into your day on Qamea. Highlights included surf trips to the outer reefs, snorkelling and lunch on the Island Tour, the Sunday morning village visits and church service, and the food. Crikey, the food. I had to ask for slightly less portions by dinner time, or I would have no room left for evening kava with the locals! If you're reading this review and considering/comparing it with other options in Fiji, fair enough, but I honestly feel it is a rare and rich experience worth every cent and the added travel time to get there. The snorkelling out the back of the hotel was lovely. There was a large staff to customer ratio which meant there was always someone to help you. Lots of lovely plants at the hotel and the rooms were nice. Free water refills is always appreciated.

If you think about Homestay experience, this is the perfect place ! Sarah and Sam are absolutely amazing! More than helpful, really kind and mindful! Thank you for your kindness and knowledge! Home is close to the airport and a bus stop. Sarah and Sam have really good tips on how to visit the island and will adapt to your way of traveling:) The food is absolutely great, and I garanty, you won't leave the table hungry ;) The room was clean and tidy, with everything you need, even a newly added AC ! Excellent breakfast with many choices. The owner helped me organize great activities during my stay. The place is beautifully landscaped and has a view of the ocean.

Remote location of the resort, beautiful views, friendly staff, delicious food and scuba diving / snorkeling trips make the resort the perfect place for a recharging trip.
