The village is very pretty and perfect for short walks. The room was comfortable, clean and very cosy. The food was excellent and the breakfast was 11/10. The staff was also very friendly and helpful.

Great room, decor is beautiful, comfy bed, spotlessly clean. Fridge in room with Prosecco was a lovely surprise also muffins. We even had a dual control electric blanket. There’s also a fan and extra heater in room if you need either. Shower is great, nice and hot. Lots of choice for breakfast, yoghurt, fruit, malt loaf, croissants, cereal, toast, crumpets and more. Theres also a beautiful lounge to relax in. Michael is such a great host and lovely company. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

The location is beautiful and very convenient for the Whitworth Institute. I loved my cozy room, the comfy bed, the lovely, clean bathroom with the fantastic shower, the thoughtful coffee and tea amenities, the witty proprietor, Alan and his courteous, talented and considerate staff, the tasteful decor and the wonderful welcome. I'm so pleased I chose the Square and Compass and I'm greatly looking forward to my next stay. Very highly recommended!

Katrina and Tim were very friendly and welcoming. They have a lovely cottage which was a delight to stay in. A great location to access the Peak District. Room was warm and comfortable.

The staff were very kind and friendly, which made my stay even more enjoyable. The room was beautifully decorated in a charming country style. It was clean, well-equipped with plenty of amenities, and the bed was very comfortable. The meals at the pub, as well as breakfast, were warm and delicious. I highly recommend this hotel.

Location was perfect for our one day trip to Alton Towers. A short 5 minute drive away. Our host gave us some recommendations for dinner on both our nights, which were a short walk away from the accommodation.
