The Backwaters lodge has everything that a naturelover is looking for. We really had the best time here in the middle of nowhere close to the Wilpattu National Park. The staff is really helpfull and very friendly, the rooms are right into nature but still have the luxury of having warm water and AC, great and an extended breakfast and dinner, I can go on and on. If you want to go on a safari at Wilpattu they can arrange a private jeep for you (which is a must do ofcourse). Further to fill in your time you can just hang out at the beautifull chillspots on the ponds or in the jungle or you could go kayaking with the kayaks available at the lodge. We wished we could have stayed longer to enjoy the lodge a little more.

Amazing location, just 15min Drive to the entry of the national park and as we were coming in the evening, we had an elephant crossing just outside our hotel. Such a good start of the safari. we took 3 rooms so whole 3 floors were ours. The staff was super friendly; they helped carry our bags and show us rooms. prepared dinner in advance. Quick response to all of our questions. Next morning prepared take away boxes for breakfast and lunch for our safari day trip. We had an awesome weather. So more elephants, tons of birds, alligator I think, and..... leopard. The only reason we visited this safari was to see leopard and it was a perfect choice. Not alot of tourists and we've seen everything we wanted. On a way back, last 10 min started to rain and the hotel staff helped up with bags again and easy check out. They were always helpful and kind. I read some other reviews saying that the place is under construction - but its not relevant. Yes, they started the business maybe couple of years ago and they do develope slowly but they try and work very hard to make us tourists happy. We had a group of 5 people, parents are senior and we all loved it and would definitely recommend this place to everyone.

The welcome juice was delicious! The room was clean. The bed was comfortable with a good mosquito net. The location was super calm and you can enjoy the sunset over the rice fields. Additional in-room amenities include wine or champagne, fruits and chocolates or cookies. I had a wonderful stay with Riswan and his family. They truly care about offering the best possible experience to their guests and sharing the beauty of their region. They even managed to organize a last-minute safari for me at a very reasonable price, especially considering how well the day went (great driver, breakfast + lunch included) – $50 for a half day, $95 for a full day. As for the wildlife, I was lucky not only in the park but also around the village where the guesthouse is located. It’s not uncommon to see one or even several elephants passing by – though of course, that’s up to Mother Nature! Overall, a fantastic experience. A big thank you to Riswan and his brother for their kindness and for taking the time to help me plan my route. Good to know: there’s a local bus that runs from the village to Puttalam for 150 LKR, 1h, starting around 7 AM, with connections to many other destinations from there.

Green sapphire resort is one of the best hotels we spent in Sri Lanka. Staff, Food, View, Nature, all are superb. And the best part is the safari tour. The hotel arranged us a tour and we had an unforgettable experience with the safari driver. We saw all the animals in the Wilpattu Safari. Leopards, Elephants, Bears etc. The driver has a great experience about the jungle and the roads. We went 3 kinds of safari in Sri Lanka and this was the best. I think this is the best place to go on a wilpattu safari tour. Very good & appreciate it!!
