For added privacy, the accommodation features a private entrance. Everything was great. Well maintained, clean and an excellent location to explore the north side of the island from. The hosts are friendly and have things nicely arranged and extra items for use such as folding chairs for outdoors, a beach umbrella and a small cooler. If we come back to the big island any time in the future we’d definitely stay here again.

I was just chilling in the outdoor Terrace all the time 😍😍 The house itself is great (coffee, tea was available at any time!), once I walked in tbe room the smell of clean sheets hit my nose hahah home made breakfast was great too. And the host.... She is amazing! More people like her in this world!

Its walking distance to a black sand, clothing optional, beach. I will definitely book here again when visiting the Big Island. I would feel safe here as a solo traveler. Stephen greeted us when we arrived to the property and was so welcoming. I immediately felt at ease in his presence. He gave us a tour and showed us to our rooms, let us know how to reach him if we needed anything. Our smoke alarm was going off one night and he came right over, checked it out and swapped the battery, fixing the problem. I traveled with a friend and we each had separate rooms. The house feels more home like, relaxing front porch, solid wood furniture, and everything you'd need. Both rooms were clean and beds comfortable. At first, I thought my bed may be too soft, but I slept SO good and woke with no pains, feeling refreshed, so it must have been just right. Bath and beach towels were in our rooms, a bathrobe, a list of hosted and local activities we may be interested in, and a little bowl of snacks too. I also appreciated they had sunscreen and bug spray available.

We were in for a quick, one evening stay after getting engaged in Kona and my boyfriend (fiancé now!) and I could not have asked for a better place to celebrate 1 on 1. As PNW-ers, we love Hilo for its tropical rain. At Orchid Tree, you can look forward to: the most comfy bed (I gasped when I felt the pillows), tall ceilings with beautiful woodwork and a delightful breeze from the screen doors, and so many thoughtful, small touches. Every inch of the room was clean but it still felt homey, not sterile. Coffee, fresh fruit, and carbs in the morning, coupled with a sweet chat with Steve and fellow travelers. This B&B strikes the perfect balance of private and communal. At the end of our stay, my partner ran back in and Steve gave us a list of recs. We then proceeded in heading over to Steve's son's shaved ice shop (Aloha General Co - located at 28-1692 Old Mamalahoa Hwy, Honomu) to get one of the best desserts of our life and more caffeine. Highly recommend 'The Local' shaved ice. Could not have asked for a better stay. We hope to be back someday! For my foodies: For those who are celebrating (life or otherwise), Moon and Turtle was one of the best meals of my life and a trip to Hilo isn't complete without the fries and fry sauce at Hilo Tavern. ENJOY!

They were super helpfull and good-spirited. Breakfast was great and delicious, with plant-based options as well. Beautifull view of the ocean! Perfectly nice room and bed as well. Beach towels, equipment and day snacks were a nice bonus too! Warm contact and communication with owners as well.

We stayed at Mahana House for two nights and absolutely loved it. The cottage was beautiful and incredibly comfortable — the bed even had adjustable firmness settings! The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed, and there was a laundry room where we could wash and dry our clothes for free. The cat was adorable, and for the first time, my husband changed his opinion about cats — he actually liked this one! Randy takes great care of the orchard, and the longans were delicious. We truly appreciated the peaceful surroundings — it was perfect for mindfulness and relaxation. We shared photos on Instagram, and so many of our friends are now planning to visit too! It’s about a 15-minute drive from Hilo town, so having a car is necessary — but totally worth it. This place is truly a dream stay. Highly recommended!
