Lovely staff. Couldn't do enough to help. Fantastic food. Beautiful room with its own private onsen. Car parking outside. Easy walking distance (5 minutes) from the shrine & nightly Kagura performances. About a 20 minute walk to the Gorge & the row boat station. Wow did Ryokan Shinsen ever meet and exceed our expectations! Our room was incredible. The cleanliness and attention to detail in the design of the property and gardens are wonderful. The staff treated us like gold. They were especially considerate towards my girlfriends serious gluten allergy at dinner, and also my desire to not eat seafood.

The tenant has been great with me since the check-in (very late) and also he made me breakfast even if I was late and no pressure! The room was big and clean, all amenities were available and the place is just great with a lot of nature around. Great for a road trip!

location was a bit far from the main town, but within 10-15 mins driving so it was not an issue. the house was spacious and wide, easily able to fit everyone in without feeling cramped. bonus was the 2 bathrooms, so there was no long waiting time amongst friends. kitchen had everything you need, even though we didn't cook. beds were comfortable, the a/c/heater was new, nothing to complain about. the bar master (and i think owner of the place too) was super friendly, had a good time chatting with him through the night. the bar/restaurant was also super cozy if you wanted to work outside the room.
