Everything. Staff, Food, Location, Facilities, Rooms. Our 5th stay at Tembo in 12 months. Excellent every time including recognition by the staff and brilliant service. Kassim in the reception area is fantastic, ensuring we were happy with the room and arranging bookings for us. We have stayed in all sections of Tembo main hotel, Apartments and Palace and enjoyed them all. Seeing the General Manager (Abdul?) down at breakfast and chatting with him while he is checking how things are with the guests is great to see.

Staying in Freddie Mercury’s childhood home was special. It is a really beautiful apartment and on top of that you get use of the facilities at the hotel. I only had one night but it will definitely stay in the memory bank!!!

From the moment I arrived with my big luggage, my first priority was finding a safe place to store it for the duration of my stay in Zanzibar. They not only offered secure storage facilities but exceeded my expectations by providing a reliable solution for my needs. Due to a delayed flight, I arrived at the hostel much later than anticipated. Despite the inconvenience, Salma, the owner, went above and beyond by offering to refund the cost of the missed day of my reservation. This gesture of understanding and flexibility immediately made me feel welcomed and valued as a guest. Upon my return, with an early morning flight looming, Salma surprised me once again with her exceptional hospitality. She kindly arranged a room for me, ensuring I had a comfortable and stress-free stay before my departure. I cannot express enough gratitude for the level of care and hospitality I experienced here. Salma's dedication to guest satisfaction is truly remarkable and sets a standard of service that I have rarely encountered in my travels. For solo travelers who want to explore the island like myself, navigating with a large luggage, Kiponda Hotel is an absolute gem. I like the property of many reasons. It’s location is perfect, it’s near to everything, such as an ATM machine, the ocean, many restaurants and cafes, even a bakery and the hospital and the city center, without being in the very center of everything. It’s beautiful and quiet, with its old fashioned decoration with African crafts and art together with the Islamic influence of the culture. Well kept, beautiful lamubeds for example in the room and with a truly authentic feeling…good healthy breakfast with nice service, good management of the place together with a very good staff. The rest of the crew are also very nice friendly polite and helpful. It was a little bit on the expensive side for me, but still with good value for the money.
