Well located and the historic neighborhood walking distance from almost every site. The bathroom building was very nice and modern and clean. The main house building was also very spacious and comfortable. The bikes were great for getting around town. And I absolutely loved the private Japanese garden in between the two buildings. even in the winter snow, it made it a delight to go back-and-forth between the two buildings to use the restroom or shower. I would have enjoyed staying another day. Thank you for offering such a restful and peaceful place to stay. I enjoyed my time here much more than I expected. It was lovely.

Inase Otsu Machiya Bed and Breakfast, a property with a garden and a shared lounge, is situated in Otsu, 10 km from Daigo-ji Temple, 11 km from Shoren-in Temple, as well as 11 km from Samurai Kembu Kyoto. Featuring garden and inner courtyard views, this bed and breakfast also comes with free WiFi. Kiyomizu-dera Temple is 12 km away and Mount Hiei is 14 km from the bed and breakfast. Wonderful stay! Amazing staff, breakfast, rooms and building. We would definitely come back and this stay was a highlight of our trip!

A free shuttle runs to/from JR Ogoto-Onsen Station, which is a 5-minute ride away. This place is a real gem for relaxation. Our room had a great view to the Biwa lake, comfy beds, and an open air bath. Our first dinner was a 10+ plate Kaiseki menu, and as our second dinner we chose crab shabu shabu, which was excellent as well. Tried public onsens (indoor and outdoor pools), private onsen, and massage. Wore Yukatas the whole time :) All public and private areas were exceptionally spacious. The staff were very welcoming. There was a shuttle to/from the nearest train station.

What’s not to like… we had the best room in the ryokan, super spacious room, had a huge bathroom, shower and a private open air onsen. We had a living room and a bedroom, the space we had was probably bigger than our apartment back home! Dinner and breakfast was beautifully presented, I literally was so relaxed I lost myself there. Wish I booked it for more than one night!

The host had excellent communication and provided many useful travel tips including parking in Kyoto. We loved the local sites including Hieizan temple and hiking trails. The house was well equipped with a nice little back yard (our kids loved to play there) and the kotatsu (table with heater underneath) was a great hangout space for watching TV or working. Overall it was a cozy and quiet refuge from the hustle of Kyoto. Our family will definitely be returning here on our next visit to Kansai!
