I stayed in one of the budget rooms, which were surprisingly spacious, spotlessly clean, and quietly tucked away in the back garden; perfect for a calm night’s sleep. The food (both breakfast and dinner) was to die for. All home-cooked by the grandmother with so much love and flavour. The family was incredibly welcoming and went above and beyond to help us: sharing honest tips about what to visit in Anuradhapura, organising a half-day safari, and arranging transport with fair prices. But what makes this place truly special is their story. They started with just one room about 10 years ago and gradually grew to eleven, without ever raising their prices for food or accommodation. Hands down, this was the best quality stay and food I had in Sri Lanka so far.

What a hidden gem! This small boutique hotel with just three rooms is truly a recommendation. From the very first moment, you feel more than welcome thanks to the friendly and personal reception. Not only does the owner’s daughter clearly do her best to make guests feel at home, but the manager also brings a warm and personal touch to everything he does. The hotel just recently opened, and while they’re still figuring out the best approach in some areas, they more than make up for it with their helpfulness, genuine friendliness, and open attitude. You instantly feel at home here. The rooms are beautifully decorated, stylish and comfortable, with great attention to detail. And the breakfast? The Hostel is sort of an oasis and a source of relaxation and contemplation, close to a lake, in the busy Anuradhapura. Jonti is such a welcoming, warm-hearted and helpful character who will make your day memorable if you are looking for honest conversations and insights into the ancient city, a certain Buddha-inspired, conscious way of living, and into the local cuisine. It was such a blast and will think about for a long time. You can also rent a bike there.

The beauty of this place lies with the amazing hospitality and competence of the host Wasantha, and the delicious local meals prepared by his wife. You really feel at home the very moment you step into their house. The room is basic but clean and comfortable. The location is good, just a 20min walk away from the centre (where the central bus station and shopping opportunities are). We also arranged with Wasantha pick up in Trincomalee and drop off in Jaffna, with full day tour of the locations away from the city centre. He also helped arranging tours of the old city and Mihintale. We were very satisfied with these services and found his prices very competitive compared to other similar services we got throughout our trip in SL. A final word: remember, this is a homestay, not an hotel, and in that league it is a very good one.

    The homestay is in a great location, you have a beautiful view of the lake and can see the stupas in the background. By tuk-tuk it is 10 minutes to the ancient city and about 45 minutes to Wilpattu NP. The rooms are very clean, there was delicious food on request and the host was really nice and helpful. Really great!

    I had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The receptionist was very supportive and made check-in a breeze. The rooms and bathrooms were spotless, which made my stay even more comfortable.     Coming from a no aircondition bb, we loved the rooms with aircondition! Very clean with large beds, soap available (not all places have that) and great location. Close to the new bus station, shops and supermarked, and still very quiet. The breakfast was cheap and delicious with plenty of food. Owner really friendly and even offered to take us to the old bus station upon departure. We would come back any time!
