We booked a tour at the place, going along the river, to Playa Blanca, and Livingstone, which was not too expensive and very nice. The food was good as well.

Having stayed at another lovely hostel close to the town of Rio Dulce, I would say this end of the river is more beautiful and unspoilt. You can take kayaks out and explore the little mangrove creeks near the hostel or venture as far afield as the Biotopo nature reserve. So many suggestions of fun and interesting things to do you could easily spend a week here!

They call for a tuk-tuk if you need one. As a bonus, they said the 8am boat to Rio Dulce picks up right at the property dock, so no need to go into town.
