The Com is attached to the Pub the Commercial Hotel so could pop in for a drink or a meal if you liked. The building design was quite different with separate motel rooms(almost a tiny home) separated by empty garages on two levels Our room had lovely afternoon sun. Plenty of parking and space. Built in front of the big rock cliffs of Whakatane and the Tuis were very busy in the bush in the morning - lovely.

Upon my request for a quiet room, he gave me an upgrade to a one-bedroom apartment facing an inner courtyard and provided a late checkout upon learning my late departing flight. Everything in the apartment was clean, well-equipped and comfortable. I will stay there again when I am in Wellington again.
