It’s usually a day trip destination, but we decided to stay for 4 nights. The old town was a nice place to walk around. The castle was a must visit. On the other days, we rented a car and drive to Sarande, Ksamil, Permet (thermos bath. We took a bus from Athens (we paid 5€ for the taxi to take us up to our hotel). People are very helpful. A lot to discover between history and nature for those who loves walking and climbing. As an animal lover, I have rescued a dog and adopted him. Amazing town in the mountains with a lot of history worth a few days. The experience as enhanced by our stay at the Hotel SS Kekezi a unique family run hotel full of character and a fantastic breakfast. The owner was so helpful. Castle was big, but we liked Berat's better.
Castle was big, but we liked Berat's better. Hills are brutal to climb. Cars going in opposite directions on the same street are often a problem. If you are not on the main streets, gps will tell you to make near impossible turns. Spacious and nice rooms, all very clean. Nice breakfast. We enjoyed much the swimming pool, that is big and deep, specially as the weather has been really warm during our stay. The location feels a bit strange at the beginning, as the hotel is directly on the road but it is finally ok and very convenient to visit Gjirokaster and the surroundings.
