FAQs about hotels in Hobart

Historic City Comes of Age

Historic Hobart, with its convict past, was often referred to as Australia’s neglected backwater. How times have changed as its temperate climate, quiet lifestyle and fabulous food and markets make it a revitalising tourist destination along the Derwent River in Tasmania.

The city’s significant maritime history begins at Constitution Dock, situated along the waterfront and facing the beautiful harbour. Nearby Battery Point and affluent Sandy Bay feature Georgian and Victorian architecture and the first settler’s cottages in Australia’s 2nd oldest city.

Escape to a memorable view of Hobart town from the snow-covered Mount Wellington or get close up and personal in the city’s quaint streets. Hobart comes alive during the colourful Salamanca Market, held every Saturday morning, where you can bag a bargain or sample mouth-watering produce such as local wines and cheeses.

Cascade Brewery and Cadbury’s Chocolates have tours of these Tasmanian icons or visit Wrest Point Casino, a popular event and entertainment centre.

The annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in December and Tulip Festival in the Royal Botanical Gardens swells the population in this small capital city. Make sure you check Booking.com ahead of time for your colonial cottage, cosy B&B or waterfront apartment.

Absolutely Australia's most liveable city by far!

Absolutely Australia's most liveable city by far! So funky with music, entertainment, bars and pubs open much later than the Gold Coast which closes at 8pm! With the university ss part of the CBD now the small food pop ups were everywhere offering amazing international cuisine Shops are still buzzing at closing time. This city is electric with energy!

People, shops, cafes and locally made products in Hobart set...

People, shops, cafes and locally made products in Hobart set a great vibe. North Hobart was buzzing on a Tuesday night with so many choices of restaurants and cuisines. The countryside with many wineries and local cheese in the Coal river region is a must visit so are the berry and fruit farms. Further east the river views and beaches were stunning along the coast.

We had 3 nights in Hobart and managed to see quite a lot.

We had 3 nights in Hobart and managed to see quite a lot. The Harbour side is lovely for a walk and something to eat with food markets on a Friday night. 1hr Harbour Cruise was worth the trip and lots of history and information. Mona Art Gallery is always worth a visit. We also visited the Wooden Boat Centre in Franklin and had a guided tour there. Lovely to see the salvage and rescue of some old wooden boats and all work done traditionally. Views from Mt Wellington/Kunanyi are amazing - but take something warm it can also be very windy. Salamanca markets are fabulous - so many different stalls and all good quality. Give yourself time and take cash if you have it. Get there early it gets busy.

Hobart is a great City to visit but always bring some...

Hobart is a great City to visit but always bring some additional layers. So much to do and see. Mt Wellington - fantastic views Mono is so interesting and getting the ferry there and back is so convenient. Plenty of Museums and art gallery's to visit as well as the Cascade Brewery and Cascade Female Factory [about 2km out of the city or a quick ride on the Hop on Hop off bus] Salamanca Markets are also a must. The Skybus is also a quick and easy way to travel to and from the airport, especially for solo travellers.

Spacious, well equipped apartment with luxury finishes and amazing views of Hobart and the local harbour. We stayed in the Western penthouse so enjoyed the sunsets over the mountain in the afternoon. The CBD is a short 10 min drive away or if not driving you can catch a ferry from the end of the street direct to Salamanca, Its easy and cheap to get an Uber back home later on. There are also a few restaurants/takeaways, and a supermarket close by if wanting to relax at home.

The check in process is always smooth and the staff are friendly and accommodating. beds and pillows are very comfortable and the rooms are spotless. we love the sauna, pool and gym, as well as undercover parking. The hotel is close to the waterfront, CBD shopping, gyms and cinema. One of the best places to stay in Hobart and a consistently great experience.
