Everything about this accommodation exceeded our expectations, it is so beautifully appointed, well run with friendly and professional staff, easy access for all our luggage, we were able to drive close enough to the entrance and roll into the rooms. We were able to use the kitchen/fridge, again so well stocked. The bathrooms were pure luxury, linens, towels everything was fabulous. We also had dinner steps away at the Commodore, it was excellent, as was the Delgattie wine in the room. The place has the beautifully aged history, yet with all the modern technology and updates needed... we loved our stay! Thank you so much, its our favorite accommodation so far in NZ and Australia :)... Kim

Mount Gambier is one of our fav destination for a short crisp getaway. The Blue Lake is the star attraction- a crater lake that changes to a striking cobalt blue in summer and shifts to a steel grey in winter. Standing at the lookouts, the colour really does look unreal. Just minutes away are the Valley Lake, Centenary Tower, and several crater reserves that offer walking trails, picnic spots, and panoramic views. Another highlight is Umpherston Sinkhole, also known as the Sunken Garden. It’s a giant collapsed cave transformed into a lush, terraced garden filled with flowers and greenery. If you’re more into scenic drives, the nearby Coonawarra wine region and Robe’s coastal charm are easy day trips. A beautiful blend of volcanic landscapes, gardens, and regional charm. Mount Gambier is well worth the stop whether you’re road-tripping between Adelaide and Melbourne or looking for a relaxing getaway in nature.

The 2 bedroom apartment was perfect for us. Lovely little kitchenette, comfy couch, scrupulously clean, super comfy bed and pillows. Adam was brilliant and friendly, very knowledgeable local who gave us great tips and advice on what to see and how to get around. absolutely appreciated it- thank you

An old city with beautiful architecture but all of the modern shopping & food options. Lots to see and do, lakes, caves, sinkholes, lookouts, hikes. Coonawarra region just up the road & coast in other direction. Pine plantations full of black cockatoos. Overall well worth a visit.

It has the real country charm and the staff were excellent always with a smile and had time for a chat. Wanted to make sure we had the best time. Steaks at the steak house were just so good. The bar and the fire places and the flowers from their beautiful garden add so much of charm to this beautiful hotel. Bed was so comfortable. We will definitely be back. Asha & Ranil

Great to finally have modern place to stay in Mount Gambier! Very quiet, do not hear any noise from others in other apartments or them coming or going. Plenty of power points for sleep machine and charging phones ETC. Very close to lots of options for dining or shopping. Will stay again.

The hotel did not meet our expectations. Lots of road noise. Hotel quite shabby. Bad location as on busy crossroads. Doors I’ll-fitting on both sides of the room. Single glazed windows. We did not read the reviews, which is our error, otherwise we would not have booked this hotel.

The Lakes Resort is a well maintained older motel that I have returned to each time I have been in Mount Gambier. Rooms are clean and well presented and the location is quiet at night. We will be happy to return to "The Lakes" when we next visit Mount Gambier.
