It’s a good stopover point if you’re travelling from the west coast towards Hobart. Once you’ve had a restful night, you can check out the local farmers market ( Saturday) or check out the cafes and bakeries for before making your onward journey

We enjoyed a good meal at the Bush Inn pub which was a stroll from the property .It's claim to fame is it's Australia's oldest continuously operating licensed hotel, established in 1815.
There is a bit of history around New Norfolk and a pleasant river walk.

New Norfolk has some very quirky shops, antique shops and lovely cafes. A good point for day trips to Russell Falls and the Salmon Ponds.
The town is easy to get around, with plenty of parking behind the shops.

The down side was that it was not harvest season for fruit and berries. But the vistas were a delight in this productive farming and orchard area with rolling hills and rippling rivers. It is not far to Mt Field National Park for rainforest walks. The closest easy walk to Russell Falls was a delightful as there was a good drop and plenty of water.

New Norfolk is held in very high regard to me.
New Norfolk is held in very high regard to me. I spent 12 years of growing up there.
It is very scenic and beautiful. Plenty of eateries and places of interest. Walks up and down the river are gems if you find them.
Antiques and wonderful homeware stores bring an element of excitement to me.
Recently discovery of DV arts group is a real bonus!

New Norfolk is located 40 minutes drive from Hobart Airport.
New Norfolk is located 40 minutes drive from Hobart Airport..nestled in the beautiful Derwent Valley.Population of approx 12000 people but most houses are scattered out of town and on the other side of the river!Things to do and see:Market Day is on a Saturday and all of the main High St is closed from 9am -about 2pm when it opens again..Everything there from wood carvings to local fresh made jams and preservatives..a good vibe and the locals are so friendly!3 pubs in and around town The Bush Inn which overlooks The Derwent and has an exstensive food menu and open fire place..and live music! The New Norfolk Hotel is very accomodating and also has a very good food menu. Also for beer fanatics The Swallow Brewery is located just up at the back of Woolworths and Nigel the Head Brewer makes some stunning local Tasmanian beers amongst them a citrus ale and my favourite 'Vanilla Stout'There is also a very popular Chinese Restaurant in town 'Shangai'where you need to book on a Saturday! There are also a number of Antique shops in town and good coffee shops..Enjoy Folks!

We had an amazing stay at Explorer’s, the lodge is picture perfect! The room was lovely and incredibly comfortable, every little detail was thought of, and it’s only a short walk to the town centre - and an easy day trip to Hobart or Mt Field National Park. Make sure to stay in for breakfast, it was a highlight! Michael was a wonderful host, highly highly recommend staying here if you’re in or around New Norfolk.

set out in nature, this property is only 20 mins out of new Norfolk and perfect as a stopping point when heading out west.
the facilities were simple but all well appointed and perfect for anyone who is on an outdoor adventure in Tassie.
Free laundry and wildlife encounters were an added bonus.
we wish we had booked another night to explore the area a bit more… we will be back

This studio apartment was lovely to stay in, modern but with vintage touches. Very comfy warm bed. Location was amazing with views of New Norfolk. It was a good bonus having a washing machine. Kitchen facilities were good, provided all we needed.

Enjoyed our stay in the 1835 Old Colony Inn. Penelope was there to meet us and show us around the building. The bed was very comfortable and the room was cosy.
Penelope served us a delightful breakfast. Would stay here again if in New Norfolk.
Centrally located for our needs as we were meeting with family who live in the township of New Norfolk. Beds were very comfortable. Clean & quiet. We loved the quirky garden decor.
