The accommodation was very clean and tidy, was lovely to have 2 beds in 2 of the rooms so we didn't have to share a bed (we were a group of ladies) so was great to have the extra toilet. I had a swim, I loved the animals their was a baby duck and 2 baby chickens. Overall a good place to stay.

I was wary about booking this place because of some reviews complaining about disturbances and noise. But I went ahead booking it because there was nothing else near or far within our price range. Well, it turned to be one of the quietest hotel I have ever been to in my life. True, we were there during Christmas, and we could see hardly anyone on the streets and there weren't too many guests in hotel, either, but it was the opposite of what these negative reviews suggested beforehand. The town itself is also a delight with its buildings built by the settlers. The room was spacious, we actually got two adjoining rooms for the average price of 1 room elsewhere. It was also clean, the beds were comfortable, and free amenities were provided.

The location was great as we were on a long journey from Fremantle to Wave Rock. York, WA was a good break point, and we loved the town (I was born in York, UK). The Settlers House was well positioned in the town of York and easy to find. Ample car-parking a bonus. Our room had air-con, microwave, toaster and fridge, so making breakfast was easy. The hotel does provide breakfast and evening meals if you don't want to cook. There is also an excellent Fish & Chip Shop a few doors down the street. The Settlers House gave us a BIG Aussie welcome, and that helped to 'settle' (pun intended) us in. I just want to add a note about Wi-Fi; very simply there isn't any ! That's not a complaint, in fact it rather amuses me. I was able to get a passable connection by means of my own SIM card, but I also took the opportunity to have a detox from the virtual world to enjoy the history all around me.

Disappointing a lot of shops closed or closed early!

Disappointing a lot of shops closed or closed early! Need more signposts on roads out of town. You would get to a t junction and nothing! Anyone’s guess and can’t always rely on gps. Maps from tourist centre useless as a lot of streets not named. Toodyay was no better even the Xmas shop was closed. Looks like country towns are dying or run by volunteers. Feel sorry for the coaches of older people on day coach tours who turn up and the highlight of the day is the pub lunch. Would recommend the Imperial hotel for food . Pricey but great curry’s. Hope life picks up on weekends and live functions. I certainly won’t recommend going in the week and I won’t be in a hurry to go back there

Nice quite town lovely old building with lots of history.

Nice quite town lovely old building with lots of history. Plenty of parking around and public toilets, nice and clean. They have the motor museum, and playground for the kids in the park, which also had gas BBQ. There is an IGA and a bakery, so you can grab some lunch for the BBQ. Enjoy sitting by the river and watch the world go by. For me I just love the old buildings and the history that goes with it. Was hoping to catch a ghost in the hotel.

York is an interesting historical place to visit. The tourist information office staff were very helpful. Good base for exploring the local area, we visited Northam, Toodyay and the silo artworks. The local pubs and cafes serve good food. the motor museum is a great place to visit.

York is a beautiful old town with an impressive town hall, an emporium with interesting antiques, other antique shops, nice places to eat, a car museum with the smallest German police car you would ever see in your life, a swing bridge, a great wall, even the local IGA is above average for a small town.

A lovely historical town with quaint shops and a real country feeling. The Corrugated Farm shop in the main street has really unique, hand- made crafts and recycled goods, plus the Good Shop for all things fresh and organic. A couple of hotels for good food, plus the Bakery and Jule's cafe, the Chinese cafe and pizza cafe all on the main street Avon Tce. More cafes up and down the main street as well, in easy walking distance. The town has lots of festivals, craft workshops and events so check out the events for the dates you visit. A great place for a few days or just drop in on your way through the early settled wheatbelt towns about an hour's drive from Perth city.

We loved our stay at Lavendale Country retreat, I travelled with 3 other ladies to attend a line dancing night in the York Town hall, we loved our house {The Lodge} it was really big with plenty of beds, the beds were very comfortable. Lovely large kitchen, and great Patio, we had breakfast outside enjoying the country sounds and the quiet.
