Bruges is inundated with chocolate, waffle and chip shops but also appears to have a good selection of traditional shops.Early November is tolerable but expect the summer months and build up to Xmas with the attraction of the markets ,making it too busy. Particularly liked the emphasis on pedestrianised areas, the squares, the Belfry chiming away in the background, its history and friendliness of the people who didn't get exasperated with my limited french.Compared to Bruxelles, a lot cleaner and didn't see evidence of rough sleeping.

This was our 3rd visit to Bruges, overall the charm keeps bringing us back... and the chocolate, beer, and Flemish cuisine... The city is steeped in history around every corner, and worth just wandering around for days. Nearly everyone seems to speak English and many speak 4-5 languages. We'll certainly be back as there's always something we didn't get to, other things to do again.

Beautiful medieval city unique with picturesque canals.

Beautiful medieval city unique with picturesque canals. Great food and hospitality and if you like beer and chocolate this is your place! Easy to walk everywhere and great museums and boat rides, the bell tower in main square worth the climb, the Gruuthusemuseum was a very fine example of a wealthy man’s house, the townhall has incredible murals, the Groeningemuseum museum has incredible Flemish masters paintings. The Historium museum on main square has great tour with virtual reality headset storey of history of medieval merchant Bruges, and a great storey tour involving a journey and adventure of two lovers inspired by a famous Flemish painting.

Our self tour was 3 nights Bruges, 2 nights Brussels.

Our self tour was 3 nights Bruges, 2 nights Brussels. We packed in Antwerp, Ghent and Ypres (if interested in WW1 - tour operators such as Quasimodo). Use the train service - so easy and much better than UK. Bruges is stunning. Several museums are closed on Mondays. Think about buying a Musea Brugge Card €33.

My room in this hotel had what must be one of the best views in Bruges - overlooking Grote Markt - the main city square. Opening the shutters in the morning to watch this city come to life among beautiful, historic buildings was very special. My room was well decorated and generously proportioned with a huge comfortable bed and bathroom. Being in the centre I was within walking distance of most museums and sights and downstairs were many restaurants and eateries.

A truly fabulous place to stay in Bruges. Tibo, the canal suite was absolutely perfect accommodation; spacious, comfortable and with everything we needed. The bath was also a bonus, as they become increasingly hard to find in hotels. Anna 9 is well located in a peaceful area on the canal but close to the old centre. Jan and Lieve are perfect hosts, very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

Beautiful old hotel with gorgeous dining room in an excellent location on the canal and close to all main attractions. Canal view was impressive. A kettle and coffee in the room. Modern bathroom. King singles joined with two doonas was great. Lovely staff. Kindly deal with an issue. The view is great - right in the heart of “In Bruges” filming set. A highly popular area.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was nice, very big and very warm (it was full winter). We could reach Bruges center by walk and the parking was free and around five minutes from the hotel, so not the best but still very comfortable.
