Unhygienic and dirty rooms- not to mention the smell and stains everywhere. A great marketing exercise that quickly turns into a nightmare, arriving late at night without any support and zero commitment for basic hospitality. The owner shows an arrogant and disrespectful behaviour towards foreigner travellers. Not proposing any solution nor apologies for the unpleasant experience. We wish the rooms would look and feel like the images shown on booking.com.

The river tour was amazing, and a little bar on the other side of the river called Portinho was idyllic, with the chairs and tables actually in the the water! The tour included the ceramic making, just a small scale family business and definitely worth checking out. It's one of the oldest cities in Brazil so has a bit of history and has hardly any western tourists so a proper Brazilian experience! Make sure you speak Portuguese though, ore research a guide who speaks your native language if not!

The city of Penedo is very well preserved, especially its historical heritage. The churches are beautiful. It has good restaurants with live music to enjoy during the day and night. The city also offers some tours along the São Francisco River, with various swimming options.

Considered the cradle of Alagoan civilization, the city breathes history on every corner. Impressive landscapes and a (mostly) welcoming and hospitable people. It's definitely worth visiting the centuries-old churches, the mansions, the 7 de Setembro Theater (the oldest), visiting the local crafts, the Rocheira Fort, Prainha beach, among others.

Penedo is a city with a very beautiful history of entrepreneurship. I was surprised by it. It has history, it's beautiful, and the people are very hospitable. If you're passing through the São Francisco River, or going to Sergipe or coming from Sergipe to Alagoas, it's worth spending a couple of days in Penedo. Especially since there are boat trips available.

I like old buildings, historic cities.

I like old buildings, historic cities. The city is full of these buildings. Some are well-maintained and restored. Others are deteriorating, abandoned. I think the city hall or state government could invest more in preserving the beautiful mansions and palaces from the time of the Empire. This would attract even more visitors to the city. We had a delicious lunch at the Oratório restaurant!

A beautiful historic city, well worth a visit.

A beautiful historic city, well worth a visit. Comparable to Ouro Preto with its hills and historic churches. Some parts of the city resemble Santa Teresa in Rio de Janeiro. The mouth of the São Francisco River is worth a visit.
