The harbour is great and there are some interesting eighbourhoods. I was disappointed at the lack of day tours—I did get to sunset at Peggy’s Cove, but no walking tour, harbour tour, wine tour or Mahone Bay/ Lunenburg tour was available. The Halifax Waterfront is attractive, with good restaurants. Taking the ferry between Halifax and Dartmouth is inexpensive and fun. Nice trail on the Dartmouth side as it winds along the waterfront. Halifax is such an easy place to navigate and walk. It's a city with a small town feel. I really enjoyed the restaurants, the people and the whole surrounding area to explore. Being close to the harbour is the only way we could imagine visiting Halifax. The harbour is so lively and walkable that we did not use our car for the 3 days. There are lots of interesting sights nearby if you choose to drive or take tours.Guest review byEdwardCanada - 8.0
If you need a rental car out of the airport it is common...
If you need a rental car out of the airport it is common they run out of cars. This caused huge problems for us and had to use alternative services. If same happens to you try Turo in Halifax. People rent their cars through the service.Guest review bySax LynnCanada - 2.0
What an absolute mess!
What an absolute mess! If you plan on staying in one spot, enjoy Halifax! If you plan on travelling around the city, plan for an entire day just for the drive. My hotel was only 9 kms from my event and it took 30 minutes each way. Construction at every turn. Heavy traffic. Dartmouth isn't in Halifax but we only had to walk 4 minutes to catch the ferry across the river into Halifax downtown. We were close to restaurants too. Dartmouth was nice to walk around as much as Halifax itself. Buses were also close by so it was easy to get around. The apartment was small but was bright and comfortable.
