Port Hardy is a seaport and connection point to the ferry...

Port Hardy is a seaport and connection point to the ferry service to more northern islands and coastal communities along BC's coast all the way to Prince Rupert. It is small, Indigenous-run community that has considerable services and courteous and competent staff at each point of service we experienced.

Port Hardy is central to many hiking trails and booking boat trips. Lots of good restaurants. I just wish that it would be possible to book half days fishing trips (only full days were available which is not ideal if you are afraid of the sea or this is your first boat trip).

Having an oceanside hotel was wonderful to see the tide...

Having an oceanside hotel was wonderful to see the tide ebbing and flowing, plus the eagles and seals. People we met in the town were very personable. Unfortunately, the Visitor Centre was closed on Saturday and Sunday, which was most upsetting because they had the Port Hardy T-shirts that we wanted for souvenirs. The Port Hardy Heritage Society in the museum and the West Coast Community Craft Shop were great places to procure some wonderful souvenirs.

I loved the views of Port Hardy, but shopping in the Mall...

I loved the views of Port Hardy, but shopping in the Mall was not a great , the toilet situation was not a good experience, I would say a young person aprox 20 to 25 yrs old was in the toilet for about 1/2hr, scary as I think he was using drugs, There were several of us waiting to use the facility

Need a car to get around.

Need a car to get around. Book tours etc before you go as very little information or advertising when you get there. We maybe should have done this and we would have found something to do!. There are walking trails but not very well advertsied. Beautiful untouched and natural scenery around that area. Telegraph Cove is a must.. Not many places to eat and very few shops.

Port Hardy is a beautiful city, but not many options for coffee shops or places to stop in for a drink other that the restaurants in the hotels. Lots of places to explore and walking trails by the Harbour and met some locals fishing off the pier by the Marina. If one brought their fishing rods, this would be a nice way to spend some time. I could have easily stayed 2-3 nights here but it's generally used as a hub for Cape Scott or BC Ferries heading up the Inside Passage. The nature here is next to none and lots of food options in the Save on Foods for those wanting to eat in. There is a BC Liquor store which has everything else you might need.

Really nice location. Walkable to town centre and beside nice marina. Quiet. The room I had was large and clean (though see negative comments too). Coffee maker in room was quite good. Warm and professional welcome from Leah. The Lyon’s Den restaurant is a 2-3 minute walk away and the hotel has its own restaurant (which I didn’t try). There’s also a liquor store right next door.

Robert & Anne were wonderful, kind hosts. Full of recommendations for the area. We hope to visit again next time we are in Port Hardy. Room was spacious and clean. A great communal area to chat with other travellers and the kitchen had everything you could need.

Everything was excellent. Very nice modern hotel with clean nicely decorated rooms with lots of indigenous themed art work. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms had large screen TVs and big walk in showers. Friendly staff.

Cosy but functional cabins (fully equipped) with comfortable beds. Perfectly clean. Easily accessible next to the highway but slightly out of port hardy itself (40 min walk). Very friendly reception.

Good value, clean, older hotel that offers a nice breakfast. Lots of towels and nice bedding. Bed is comfortable. Liquor store onsite. Hotel is located right beside Port Hardy Airport.
