Cosy Gem At the Foot of Matterhorn
A beautiful car-free village in the Swiss Alps, Zermatt is world-famous for its skiing and mountaineering qualities. Standing in the shadow of the impressive Matterhorn, this is a true Alpine paradise, popular with both celebrities and citizens of all nationalities.

We had exceptional weather 26 degrees and no clouds, so the Gornergrat is a MUST DO in these conditions. Even paragliding should be considered. The town isn't big, so a good walk around is a great introduction, beware of the electric bikes as you walk down the high street ! Stunning alpine village.
Stunning alpine village. Definitely add Zermatt to your list when visiting Switzerland. We could definitely have spent more time enjoying Zermatt and surrounds. We were very happy with our choice of accommodation. Hotel Walliserhof is good value for the area compared to many other hotels. A very well run town.
A very well run town. Train service from Täsch was easy to navigate, and the down town area was walkable and quaint. Lots of shops and restaurants, although the shops tend to close early. If you like walking this trip is for you. The Matterhorn Trail was fantastic as the track was complimented with beautiful places to eat. Food is expensive though with little choice. Zermatt is a very cute town.
Zermatt is a very cute town. It is reputedly vehicle-free but there are plenty of electric service vehicles whizzing about. Nice shops to browse. It is a very expensive place to eat - it wasn’t uncommon to see families sharing main courses (eg. Pizzas). Great furnicular service inside the mountain, where you are immediately rewarded with Matterhorn views. Lots of hiking options at the top too. It is also the start of The Glacier Express.
