Nice for snorkeling and hiking through the park. Not so touristic as Puerto Viejo, so a more realistic Carribean vibe. Snorkeling only allowed by tour, many fish but the coral wasn't very colorful
Costa Rica, for those who prefer nature as a concept not to be endured too long, and with minimal discomfort. I can't speak to other parts of the country but the Caribbean coast is not a place for real travelers. Go to Honduras or Guatemala instead.
The area in Cahuita we stayed at was ok, I wouldn't go back. But we visited Puerto Viejo, that town is definitely great. Lots going on there, beautiful beaches, lots of restaurants, etc. A happy place. But not Cahuita.
Cahuita is a hidden gem. It’s a small, quiet peaceful place to stay that is near to Puerto Viejo, but without the noise. The beaches and wildlife were wonderful, and we loved visiting Cahuita National Park. There is a bus stop in Cahuita which goes to Puerta Viejo. We loved eating at many of the local restaurants. They were all good.
Very nice national park, day and night tours and organized snorkeling at a reef; very safe and calm destination, a lot of various restaurants, rentals of surfs, horse riding, very nice people.. variety of accommodation opportunities. supermarkets. Bribri nearby.
Cahuita has not yet been commercialized. There are souvenir shops, but it is mainly untouched and undeveloped. Has a laid back, Caribbean vibe, friendly people, unpaved roads, local unpretentious restaurants. A good place to get away from the city and be with nature.
Cahuita
We had an excellent stay at Playa Grande Lodge. The grounds are lovely with plenty of wildlife. We were really lucky as we even saw a sloth in the garden! Our appartment was beautiful, clean and had everything we needed. The fact that the hotel is beachfront was a big bonus. We loved going for a morning walk on Playa Grande to watch the sunrise. And finally the hosts, Gianluca and Mia, are wonderfull: very welcoming and they gave us great tips for exploring the area. Would highly reccomend!
Cahuita
We had a nice corner room. There was only 1 other family staying there so it was very quiet. The pool was perfect for a quick dip and there is an outdoor shower to rinse off your body or just your feet. The ocean view was amazing. The pizza was delicious (and we're from New Jersey, so we know good pizza). The breakfast included fresh ripe fruit, eggs/pancake, toast, rice and beans, all fantastic. It is walkable to restaurants and Cahuita National Park.
Cahuita
Exceptional accommodation on the edge of town. Friendly hosts offering good advice to locality. Cahuita is an unpretentious easy going place - quieter alternative to Puerto Viejo and it's gringo trail vibe. Oasi cabins immaculate and comfortable with all facilities - including two showers! Everything great! Highly recommend
Cahuita
The cabinas are in between Cahuita and Playa Negra and a short (and safe but a bit dark, take a torch!) walk from both along a gravelly path. They are very near a really great little breakfast/brunch spot on the beach. The aircon was very necessary in Cahuita. The communal kitchen was a useful and nice addition.
Cahuita
Good value, Great location. The owner was helpful with good suggestions. It's just a block from restaurants but in a quiet area, if you don't mind the roosters. Cahuita offers several good restaurants in a laid back area with the national park easily accessible.
Cahuita
A novel setting for a stay surrounded by nature yet very convenient to beach, food, and Cahuita town center. The A/C in the master was very much appreciated on the muggy nights. The kitchen is very well equipped for those who want to cook. Topo is a wonderful host.
I was traveling with a group of 17 high school students, which could’ve been more difficult, but Matheo and Erina were so helpful- making us very comfortable at the hotel and helping us arrange transportation and activities at a reasonable price. I will be back!
Cahuita
The hosts are very friendly and informative of things to do in Cahuita. Room was big and very clean. Had AC and a TV. We only stayed 1 night as we were just passing through but highly recommended this place.
We loved our stay here. Roberta, the owner, was the best. She remembered all our names and checked in regularly. The hotel itself was everything we needed, nice pool, right in the middle of everything.
Cahuita
Fantastic out of the way yet very close to Cahuita. Frederik is a wonderful host, always plenty of great advise and suggestions. The added bonus of the pool next door was a great adder.
Javier was sooo helpful and gave me a good understanding of Cahuita. The girls at the front desk were so nice and courteous as well. I really appreciated their help and patience.
Cahuita
Amazing host. The cabina catered for all our needs. Swimming pool was great and lots of birds to see. Walking distance to Playa Negra. This is the place to stay in Cahuita!
it was located close to the entrance to Cahuita national park, on the beach. It also had a small pool and parking. The breakfast was generously sized and tasty
Cahuita
That’s an amazing place! If I need to choose where to stay in Cahuita once again I would definitely choose Playa Negra Guesthouse.
in the jungle with a serene setting next to nature and animals in their natural habitat while also nearby cahuita downtown
Cahuita
Great Staff, beautiful and clean rooms, and great location. Very close to the Cahuita National Park and Cahuita Town
Cahuita
Great location near the entrance to cahuita park and in front of the beach.
