Hotels near Isla Violin

A magical place made all the more so by the lovely hosts, Anouk and Kevin. We had the place all to ourselves, but even if we hadn’t it is large enough that other guests wouldn’t have bothered us. Kevin is an excellent chef and we ate well (if too much!). Great little swimming hole to cool off in. We went on an early morning boat ride on the river with Melvin - so calm and beautiful. Take advantage when it’s high tide to kayak in the mangroves. We took the car ferry across the Sierpe river and then drove - a bit bumpy but very doable. There is nothing not to like about this corner of Costa Rica.

We were looking for accommodation a little past Drake Bay that was even more remote. The location is exceptional. The rooms are simply furnished. The beach is 50 meters away, the nature surrounding the accommodation, the wonderful family that welcomes you here with authentically homemade dishes. We had an unforgettable experience here for 4 days.

We have never said 'wow' 'amazing' 'incredible' so many times, in fact, we ran out of superlatives as we relaxed into this jungle paradise. The family were wonderful, kind, and generous of heart. All very skilled at their work (They didn't make it look like 'work' for them, more like 'life that they love' - Pura Vida). Everything was stunning - from the welcome on the beach when Guillermo met us from the boat from Sierpe, the details in the room, the 3 meals a day of home cooked delicious food - all exceptional! And what a location! 2 minutes from one of the best beaches ever - The best in the area (in our opinion) and almost always deserted - incredible to have this beautiful beach and sea to yourself). In the middle of the jungle with amazing nature coming into the garden - in just one hour we saw toucans, monkeys (one with a baby), couatis, iguana, hummingbirds galore, scarlet macaws, red-rumped tanagers, vultures, parrots, hawks, eagles, (lots of other birds) lizards, butterflies (inc the blue morpho)... all from our balcony! Bring your binoculars, it's worth getting an even closer look at it all. Despite the wildlife being so amazing, the family were an even better part of our stay. Isaac and Guillermo and their beautiful families were incredible, special people, we now have an extended family in Costa Rica! They organized all our incredible tours; Corcovado park, Snorkelling Cano, horseback riding to a remote waterfall where we swam - all for the same price as in Drake Bay or online, if not cheaper. For each one the family arranged for us to be picked up by boat (or horse) from the beach. Note - It is up a hill (to get the views), so expect a bit of an incline to get to the lodges from the beach. It is in the middle of the jungle, so internet is not 5G, but it worked fine for us. We loved Sunset Toucano lodge - as you can tell by us booking for 3 nights & staying for 8!

We stayed in the family room 7/8 which is up on the hill and has amazing views of the ocean (and sunset). Every day we would see (or hear) the scarlet macaws and toucans in the trees. Appreciated the AC, the outdoor kitchen & living room and that everything was very clean. Landscaping is beautiful. Definitely recommend getting breakfast included--kitchen at the hotel is well run and food is delicious Costa Rican fare. Tours were easily organized through hotel and very convenient. We did Corcovado overnight, Caño Island snorkeling and a sunset boat ride. Our guides were always excellent and then you didn't need to organize any transportation from the hotel.

First of all the location of this Place is what makes it stand out, its elevated over looking Bahi Drake and the sunset views in the evening are breathtaking. Everything about the hotel is fantastic, Victor was the main man for all things during our stay, from checking us in to making oustanding cocktails by the pool. Our room was named Trogon and overlooked the bay, the suspended wooden cabin has all you need and situated on the balcony a hammock perfect for relaxing in. Both breakfast and dinner were excellent, fine dining for dinner and the breakfast overlooking the bay, exceptional to see first thing in the morning also the coffee is made right in front of you as you look out over the ocean! The pool Area is fanstatic and you can look out over the ocean as you are in the pool, you can also access the beach from tha private entrance just a short walk down and over a hanging bridge. (you can see this from the pool) there is also a tower onsite you can get to which gives an amazing view from upon high (as long as heights dont bother you) Theres also plenty of wildlife around if you like that sort of thing, ( iguanas by the pool, even some Coattis roaming around ) every evening there were Macaws and Green parrots passing over and even some Toucans in the trees right next to our room! All in all an exceptional place to stay in the Drake area.

We felt so very welcomed by the super friendly owner Eliana and her house is cozy, beautiful and unique. Situated at the River Sierpe and in a lush garden we were surrounded by the stunning nature. We went on an early morning boat trip for three hours organized by Eliana and saw lots of different birds, some crocodiles, some caymans and two species of monkeys (capuchin and squirrel monkeys). After the boat trip Eliana indulged us with a delicious breakfast. We would have loved to stay longer... Thank you so much! ♡
