This was such a special place to stay the owners were very friendly, staying here as a solo traveller they really made me feel welcome and comfortable, the room was cozy a perfect place to relax and it smelt wonderful! Very nice, clean, comfortable and quiet house with an amazing panorama. Luckily the sky just cleared when we arrived so we were able to appreciate the view. We stayed for 2 nights only. We highly appreciated the personnel of the reception that helped us organise our activities. A plus was also the laundry service. We would definitely stay there again if we came back to Monteverde.

An unforgettable experience - 100% worth the money and one of those rare cases where the actual thing is as good as the pictures. The "tent" is more like a hotel room, with a TV, air con, and the comfiest bed I think I've ever slept in. You get to wake up to a view of the rainforest and your own hot tub, the outdoor shower is amazing, and they bring you a la carte breakfast every morning! We also loved little touches like the mini bar being included, and the present you get when you leave. 10/10 service, this was the highlight of our honeymoon.

Absolutely breathtaking! Our stay at Hotel Belmar was nothing short of magical. Nestled in the stunning landscape of Monteverde, this hotel boasts the most picturesque location imaginable. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The food was delicious, offering a delightful taste of local cuisine. And oh, the view! Waking up to the breathtaking vistas from our terrace each morning was simply unforgettable. To top it all off, we even had the incredible experience of sharing breakfast with some curious monkeys. Hotel Belmar truly exceeded all expectations and made our time in Monteverde unforgettable. We can’t wait to return!

A trip to Monteverde is one of the big ticks on the list for visitors to Costa Rica. Getting there is quite hard going on dreadful roads. Not ideal for anyone with any back or joint problems. It is a wet area so expect downpours and to feel damp at all times even when it is dry outside. The main reason to visit is to see the cloud forests and for zip lining, otherwise there isn’t much else to do in the area. Other attractions such as Ranali frog pond, the butterfly garden are poor and not worth the time or money. I stayed for 3 days and it was too long. My favourite thing overall was seeing the hummingbirds at Monteverde cloud forest - not in the forest itself, but in a cafe area just before the entrance to the cloud forest!

If you like cooler temperatures, rainy & windy mountains in remote Costa Rica then this is for you. Its a unique experience to be that high up above sea level and theres plenty to do outside between coffee tours, ziplines & hikes. But in terms of the town itself, theres not a lot going on and its expensive but I guess thats what you pay for tranquility & remoteness. And if you're driving up there you better have a 4x4 or AWD vehicle because the majority of the roads up here are unpaved & windy AF. Spots to check out that made our trip: Don Juan Coffee Farm, the Butterfly Sanctuary, El Tigre Waterfalls, Kinkajou Night walk, 100% Aventura Ziplines for the longest Zipline in Latin America & lastly tree climbing at Finca Modelo. If you want to try authentic Costa Rican food (because hello why not!) skip out on the expensive restaurants and go to Pizzeria 3R y el Sazón de Mary - best part is that they're open late. Food was bomb! Overall, I wouldn't spend more than 2.5 days up here.

4-wheel drive recommended, but not essential. My six-year old particularly enjoyed the animal experiences: sloths, frogs, snakes and butterflies at the Selvatura Adventure Park (which was expensive but worth it - very knowledgeable guides) and also the Bat Jungle. My favourite experience was walking the trails in the Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve - very well marked and options for different levels of ability.

Loved the adventure parks (selvatura sloth rescue is a must!

Loved the adventure parks (selvatura sloth rescue is a must!) and area restaurants Bon appetit and taco taco. Chocolate and coffee tour also worthwhile. Night tours more insect and reptile focused than in other areas. Roads in the area are very narrow and twisty, hard for motion sickness travellers.

Great place for hikers.

Great place for hikers. Unfortunately most places you have to pay to enter and it's not cheap. But there are a few free places you can walk if you do your research. There is loads of stuff to do for everyone. Families and adventure junkies.

If you love the outdoors, go to Monteverde.

If you love the outdoors, go to Monteverde. We did a coffee/sugarcane/chocolate tour, a wildlife refuge tour, night time nature walk, zip lining, and a sloth experience. There were lots of different restaurants and we loved all of the ones we visited.

We loved it! The view is stunning! A really nice restaurant, good food and breathtaking view. The staff was more than amazing! so friendly and that everyone actually named us by name, wow 😍 We got to keep the room as long as we wanted on the check out day, for free, it was offered to us without asking, never experienced that before! The jungle walk next to the hotel was super beautiful and no people, which is so rare in Monteverde. Been to Monteverde many times and this is a favourite! Really recommend this place!

The apartment we stayed in had an amazing view of the mountains in Monteverde, and everything we needed for a 4-day stay (including a fully equipped kitchen). It was spotlessly clean and very comfortable, and a short walk to the centre of Santa Elena. Sofia was so welcoming to us, bringing us fresh fruit every morning, providing us with great recommendations for activities and restaurants, and even helping me when I was unwell. We could not recommend this place more highly.

Super friendly couple with parents run this new family hotel. Rooms are big, shower is amazing comfortable. Breakfast is super delicious with fres fruits, each day! Daniela helped organize all our trips, guide, tours. They do everything to help you. They came to pick us up at the bus station in Monteverde, when we arrived at 7pm and organized our transport to la Fortuna. There are delicious restaurants 1 minte walking, for in the evening.

A beautiful hotel set in the jungly hills. The staff were particularly good, very attentive and made you feel very welcome. Rooms were spacious, very clean and had lovely views. Breakfast that comes included is very nice too. We were here for our honeymoon so went for one of the more expensive hotels in Monteverde - I would say it was worth it for a special occasion.
