Really worth a visit at any time of the year. Beautiful town center with the palace as main attraction. Good for water activities like kayaking in the summer. Nice Christmas Market in the month of December.

I had stayed in Schwerin some twenty years ago and always had wanted to come back. I enjoyed my second stay very much - just wish the weather had been better for us to have more walks along the water and in the delightful old town. I warmly recommend Schwerin to anyone wishing to explore this wonderful region of Germany. Restaurants serve excellent German food, the canals and lakes are idyllic, and of course there is the famous fairytale castle to visit: all in all many reasons to plan a stay in Schwerin.

Stunning city, among the most beautiful we've seen in Europe. Lots of worthwhile attractions. Good cafes and restaurants. Very walkable. Would definitely want to come back again for a short stay.

Very small and cute, plenty of options for food and drinks...

Very small and cute, plenty of options for food and drinks and the Castle is just superb! Fantastic for a short romantic getaway or a trip for one's self and relaxation in nature. Very easy to get to with train from Berlin. And you don't have to use the public transport, although it is easy to use and on time.

An elegant small city (so easy to cover on foot) with many attractive buildings in addition to the sensational 'Schloss' (castle/palace). The lakes add to its charm. I was sorry to find that the main art gallery was closed till Autumn 2025.

We stayed 3 nights. We spent 1 full day in Schwerin.

We stayed 3 nights. We spent 1 full day in Schwerin. The castle is more impressive from the outside but as it is not expensive it's OK to visit. German and English information boards in every room that is open. Don't bother with a guided tour unless you are keen on German history. We went at 10.00 a.m. and avoided the crowds which we saw later. Schwerin Cathedral is worth a visit and only 2 euros to climb the tower for some good views. But overall the town is a bit ordinary, or maybe we had already visited prettier and more historic towns on our way there... There is a big, busy and modern shopping mall in the town centre. Perhaps this has harmed the commercial success of the shops not in the shopping centre? Our day trip to Wismar was a more interesting day out - harbours, old town and more.

Excellent location just a five-minute walk to Schwerin HBF, supermarkets and the castle, making it an ideal base for exploring the area and taking day trips to Lübeck and Wismar. The apartment was very modern, beautifully decorated and exactly as shown in the photos. The kitchen was well equipped, the beds were comfortable and there were lots of extra blankets, duvets and pillows. The small balcony was also a nice bonus. The spiral staircase was wide and well lit, and the overall atmosphere was cosy and welcoming.

Perfect location, as in opposite the main station, also near to the city centre on foot. Quiet and clean. Friendly staff. I like the more classical "two armchairs, carpet, red curtain ambience", which has more character than the all-grey and white chain hotel rooms.
