It was a beautiful place in very nice surroundings. The place was big, clean and had all the needed stuff for the stay. The host was helpful at all times and always available if needed. There is a cosy garden with a barbecue where we could spend all night in peace and quiet. I definitely recommend this place if you visit the area.

I LOVED my stay at Palacio de Samaniego! I don't know where to start. The facilities were impeccable; newly renovated it's clean and modern but classic. The building is well maintained and the staff are friendly and the place felt like home, I was very comfortable in it (felt safe, at home and physically comfortable the furniture was amazing). The hotel is like a little museum it was incredible with all of the art work you feel like you are living inside a little art gallery/museum. There are only 9 rooms so the hotel feels cozy and you know most of the people who are staying there with you. The staff are exceptional, I felt like I was in a B&B where everyone gets to know you and genuinely they were so kind and I got on with them, was sad to leave! Location is insanely amazing; the town only has the hotel and two wineries in walking distance but the hotel has almost everything you need. It's a great place if you are out all day and want to stay in and rest in the evening. You can walk out of the hotel and go on walks up the mountain behind it or down in the wineries below - it was breathtaking. The hotel has ebikes and we took them around to the villages nearby, such a bonus for the wine country! Overall the value was insane, at 300Euro/night you get so much but mostly you feel at ease.

I was travelling and had therefore a short stay. Fantastic beautiful nature. For wanderers and tracking, a really quiet place. I did not find many things open between the hours of about 17.00 and 20.30hr. It is OK, but maybe make it more clear, so people can prepare and will not be disappointed. The rest. Quiet! Good for recovering and escaping the hectic of normal life.

Elciego is a small pueblo on the border of Rioja and Basque...

Elciego is a small pueblo on the border of Rioja and Basque region. Everyone speaks Spanish and some English. The pueblo is beautiful, quiet and has plenty of wineries on its surroundings. Worth staying at least 2 nights and enjoying field trips and wine tasting.

We walked into Elciego looking to find some local shops and...

We walked into Elciego looking to find some local shops and a few bars/ restaurants, but like many other similar villages there weren't many of either! Nice to walk around but very sleepy. The village really seems to exist for the Marques de Riscal building/hotel/winery and other similar bodegas in the local surroundings.

The hotel is located inside the wonderful restaurant La Caprichosa (this is also a good reference point to find the entrance on Google Maps). Our room was spacious and the beds were comfortable. As this is a medieval town, you can hear noise from the street, so light sleepers may want to bring earplugs — it didn’t bother me personally. I would recommend providing at least a fan during the summer, as it can get quite hot, especially if you’re using the room for more than just sleeping, such as getting ready for an event or relaxing.

How do you rate staying at a Luxury Collection managed Frank Gehry designed hotel with Michelin Star restaurant located in what was recently voted the world’s best vineyard during vintage? If I had a bucket list this would have been on it. A memorable experience.

Because of water leak in the room, we have been offered another hotel, near to the Agriturismo Valdelana. Level was not the same but staff managed to find an alternative, which is appreciated.
