My first stop was, of course, the Muesum of Shoes.

My first stop was, of course, the Muesum of Shoes. The history of Elda shoemakers was fascinating. It was great to see the shoes of famous people like American Presidents and Popes! There are very few tourists in Elda which is great, but the Tourist Information Office is wonderful. DO NOT MISS the square at the Town Hall with a full length mural and sculptures reflecting the history of Elda. There are so many places to eat, and not expensive - €10 - €15 for a 3-course lunch including wine and coffee. I love the walk/cycle for miles along the river, the fountain and the lagoon. The people of Elda are the best part - they are so friendly! It is only about a half-hour from Alicante Airport and city and there are regular trains and buses to Alicante. If you have health concerns, there is a large regional Hospital on the outskirts of Elda with a regular bus service. I can't praise Elda enough.

Elda is great because it has few tourists.

Elda is great because it has few tourists. The shoe museum is great. Easy train access to many places. Restaurant dinners are inexpensive and not crowded. People are friendly. Parking is free, once you find a spot. The long walk/cycle path along the river is lovely. The Tourist Information Office is open until 3pm and very friendly with a good map of Elda. Elda is only about a half-hour from Alicante Airport or the other direction to Alicante city - if you like crowds! A drive east through the mountains is so interesting. I will definitely go back to Elda for longer next time.

There was no breakfast facilities but they kindly loaned me a kettle to make tea. The receptionist was wonderful and spoke English well. I knew Elda somewhat so I found the Hostal easily and parking was not very far away. The facilities in the room were great - even English language News on TV from the United States and UK! The shower was lovely and hot and the bed was big and comfortable. Elda is a great city with few tourists.

Lovely little hotel, located on a main street, plenty of restaurants and cafes just outside the door, the staff were super friendly and understanding, the breakfast facilities were great and we enjoyed our time here.
