We have been traveling through Spain for the past two months...
We have been traveling through Spain for the past two months and found Jaen to be the least satisfying of all the places we stayed. It is very, very hilly. So if you have asthma or other respiratory illness, forget it. We stayed in the old town at the base of the hill and found the locals quite unfriendly and somewhat anti tourist. Don't believe Google maps(Search) about opening times for bars & restaurants as those indicated as being open, were closed. When we did find a bar, we felt unwelcome, with the barmaid choosing to text on the phone for 10 minutes of more instead of serving customers and in saying that when we were served it was after she served the locals first. My trip was limited to Jaen only rather than the surrounding countryside. Lovely town, great Cathedral, in the ticket price there is a few of the goggle that allow you to do a 360 degree virtual reality viewing- really enjoyed the added detail. You need to be fit and active to get about the hilly setting of the city. Obviously traffic is heavy but a good portion of the streets are pedestrianised. Street beggars and graffiti are common place as in most cities. History,religion, olive oil and panoramic views are plentiful. Interesting part of Andalucía often overlooked.
Interesting part of Andalucía often overlooked. It has a cathedral and Arab bath ruins. The town is hilly. There is a castle on a nearby hill, but you will need a taxi to go there. One thing about Jaen that you do not find elsewhere in Andalucía is that impatient drivers lay on their horns. Jaen is very hilly so take your time and rest as needed. The situation, dominating the town and the countryside, is exceptional. I watched both the sunrise and a sunset from a nearby spot, and it was spectacular. The hotel offers all usual amenities of a Parador, subdued, clean, comfortable, with good food at reasonable prices, and a great atmosphere. The swimming pool is exceptional. The surrounding area is relatively little known, but fascinating and beautiful. The staff was speaking English very well. This is not typical for Paradors.Guest review byChristopheFrance

It's perfectly located close to the highway, so you don'y have to enter to the city if you don't want. Huge free of charge parking place, free coffe machine at the hotel entrance and really friendly reception staff. Although the hotel is older, it is very well maintained.
