FAQs about hotels in Logroño

A Taste of the Divine

Capital of La Rioja independent community, Logroño is all about the delicious red wine cultivated in surrounding vineyards. Visiting a bodega (or two) demonstrates the care that goes into winemaking: the Franco-Españolas wine cellar is in a historic building with hundreds of barrels in underground cellars, while Juan Alcorta and Darien outside the city offer tastings in more modern structures.

You can also sample a glass of Rioja in the city’s many tapas restaurants and pavement cafés. Calle Portales is the main street and Calle Mayor also has several bars offering good nightlife.

Logroño is on the Way of St James and Santiago El Real church is a favoured stop for pilgrims. Its tower, together with the twin spires of the Co-Cathedral of Santa Maria de la Redonda, become beautifully reflected beside colourful waterfront houses in the peaceful River Ebro flowing under a stone bridge.

The covered bullring and the conference centre are north-east of the bridge, and a shady park is to the west. The Murallas del Revellín are 15th-century fortification remains, overlooked by the La Rioja Parliament building and near La Rioja Museum, detailing the region’s history.

Logroño train station is on the city outskirts and Booking.com offers guest houses nearby, as well as cheap apartments and boutique hotels near Logroño-Agoncillo Airport.

Logrono on a Saturday was packed with party tourists, the bridge into the city center was closed, and police were monitoring the main bridges into the city. Crowds of people refused to even move off the streets to allow me to get to my hotel. Several pounded on the hood of my car, as if I was daring to intrude on their taking over the streets. The police had to escort me into the city to the hotel and even for them, the people did not get out of their way. I am sure there are charming areas to the city, but it is absolutely not a place to drive to and parking is in lots across the bridges, not exactly welcoming to those who wish to stay the night. Maybe take a bus tour - I certainly will not ever go back. I did not even go out to eat anything. As a solo traveler I am not intimidated by big cities, big crowds, etc,. But this is supposed to be a charming small town. Did Rick Steves do a show here? These were not English speaking tourists - mostly Spanish and French.

The old town was super cool with the main street filled with Pinchos. Everyone was happy and friendly. Free city walking tour was very fun and informative and good for practicing my Spanish listening skills.

Logron~o is an ideal base for exploring Rioja and its wines.

Logron~o is an ideal base for exploring Rioja and its wines. It also seems to be very popular with people doing the Camino de Santiago. It is a lively town, with an interesting old-town, as well as newer and very-new areas surrounding it. The municipal park along the River Ebro provides a surprisingly quiet ambience within minutes of the rest of the town. The main tourist area is around Calle del Laurel which has a great variety of tapas bars and wine bars - but almost every area has some area for wine and food. Just beware of meal times - it is hard to get anything other than small tapas between 2pm and 8pm as there seem to be no all-day restaurants like VIPS (no snotty comments please - no . Taxis are a good option for nearby wineries but you have to queue or phone for one like in the 90s - apparently taxi apps aren't a thing yet. The strangest gap is public transport to Haro, which arguably has more bodegas than Logron~o but not much by way of hotels or evening restaurants. The first bus or train from Logron~o to Haro seems to arrive just as many of the wineries stop their tours around 2pm, and the last bus/train back from Haro seems to leave at 5pm, before anywhere opens for dinner. (I'd love to be corrected on this, in time for my next visit!)

A must visit are the Calle Laurel, Calle San Augustin and Calle Portales. All have fantastic bars serving out of this world wines and Pinchos. They get very busy at night but the atmosphere is great 👍👍 The cathedral on Calle Portales is very nice.

We arrived from Madrid to Logrono by bus, it was a very easy and scenic trip. The town is one of the best kept secrets in Spain. Very nice architecture, very historical and lots of entertainment. The wine and tapas was cheap, we walked everywhere as there were some fantastic walks along the river and through the town.

In general, the hotel was very nice and in a great location close to all the sights. It was clean, bright with modern furnishings. Great bathroom. Superb parking underground with enough space to manoeuvre a large 4x4 and large bays.
