FAQs about hotels in Helsinki

Nordic Daughter of the Baltic

Scratch beneath the small-town surface of Helsinki and you will find a cosmopolitan metropolis buzzing with a lively attitude and plenty of excitement. The relatively short-lived summer offers the best chance to appreciate the outdoors and sit on one of the popular café terraces, or even hit the Hietaniemi Beach, all of which can be enjoyed during the 20 hours of daylight.

Strolling around the streets of Helsinki will reveal an Empire-style of architecture, comparable to St. Petersburg. The greatest example of this is the green-domed Lutheran Cathedral which rises proudly out of the center of Senate Square.

From here the main shopping street of Aleksanterinkatu, affectionately known as Aleksi, runs towards Mannerheimintie and contains the largest department store in Scandanavia, called Stockmann. The up-market boulevard of Esplanadi runs alongside and is packed with exclusive boutiques.

Lovers of Nordic design will be thrilled by the Design Museum and the Ateneum Art Museum. Nature is in abundance on the beautiful archipelago which lies along the coast. A must-see is the Baltic fortress of Suomenlinna, where you just might forget you’re in a big city.

Whether you head to a sauna or amusement park when you disembark from Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport, with over 65 hotels, apartments and hostels, Booking.com has the perfect place for your Scandinavian stay.

Wonderful assortment of places to visit and to appreciate...

Wonderful assortment of places to visit and to appreciate the Finnish culture. Lots of opportunity to be with nature and walk in many different environments. Coastlines, lakes, urban city scape, combined with new and old buildings create a brilliantly different feeling from home. Museums are for everyone's taste, whether it be art, music, deign, technology, natural history or people's personal homes & collections. Parks, Botanical gardens and open spaces are abundant and create a balance between city and nature. Birdlife is oddly tame and welcoming! The music hall provides a fantastic performing space for the Sibelius Academy students and all their concerts are free, at varying times of the day and week. The rock church is also a great venue for many different concerts as well. The zoo was a wonderful walk and has a fabulous range of animals to suit every visitor, enclosures having the space for full roaming and care needed. The tower at the Olympic Stadium is a brilliant viewing platform to the whole city and one worth a visit. Both librairies are free access at any time of day for quiet sit down or even access WiFi. There are many churches and two cathedrals of beauty and worth a mention. A fabulous place for a visit.

City is small, cozy, very nice and relaxing atmosphere. Very good to travel with kids - multiple kids attractions: parks, tropical gardens, science museum. As well as for adults - with local museums and kitchen.

Overall a great city to visit for four days.

Overall a great city to visit for four days. Much is accessible on foot and the city is flat. There are regular trains from the airport to the city centre and this was cost effective (€4.40 per person). The markets around the harbour have a great selection of artisan crafts, jams and other products. There are souvenir shops around there also but would recommend saving the souvenir purchases for the souvenir shops near the church in the rock. Prices there are at least €5 cheaper and they have almost the same selection of items. The area around the Oodi library is lovely for photos and you can get to the church in the rock easily from there. If you are looking for restaurants, Olivia's was fantastic - there is one inside the train station and another about ten minutes away from the Novotel. It is very popular so I would advise making a reservation through their website (available in English). Staff at shops and restaurants spoke excellent English. From the main train station, you can go underground to a shopping centre with various shops. I would recommend a day trip to Turku by train and an ice hockey match at the Helsinki Ice Hall depending on the time of year. The tram system works very well but not all ticket machines at each tram stop worked. So, it is advisable to buy tickets for the tram from the metro station (below the main train station).

I've stayed here 3 times now in the 5 times I've visited Helsinki. It's a great location about 5 - 10 min walk from the rail station and also only 50m from the metro university entrance and several tram routes. Price wise this is a great Hotel - consistently on the cheaper side of Hotels in the city centre. Factor in a great breakfast and you have a great value for money place to stay. I like this Hotel and will, no doubt, book again the next time I visit Helsinki

There’s a different activity every day at the hostel, which creates a very warm and friendly atmosphere. In terms of location, it’s far from the city center and not within walking distance, but there are bus and tram stops nearby. There’s also a cheap supermarket right at the entrance of the hostel building that’s open 24/7.

The apartment is very good considering the cheap price! It is very close to the Itis shopping center. A trip to the city center by metro takes 15 minutes. There was a very friendly man waiting for me and giving me the key when I arrived at the place.

Just two metro stops away from the city center and airport bus stop right outside the hotel was a huge plus point. Sauna and spa in the hotel gave us easy access to the Finnish experience. The hotel had everything one can ask for !

Hotel is well situated, not too far from the city center, and in a calm neighbourhood. We took 2 rooms for 3 persons. The rooms are comfortable and were perfect for a short city trip.
