Visiting the Pielinen Museum and the Rukajärvi Museum were highlights. I have been visiting Lieksa since 1972 for hunting, so it is a familiar place to me, but I am concerned about the decline in services.

We only lived in Lieksa. We spent our days in Ruunaa.

We only lived in Lieksa. We spent our days in Ruunaa. There is nothing in Lieksa. No proper restaurants, only pizzerias and ABC. Good café Lieksan Leipomo. Church designed by Raili and Reima Pietilä and worth a visit. Beautiful, inviting. Organ from Kangasa. Lieksa is a border town and a dead village.

There are many interesting things to see in Lieksa and its...

There are many interesting things to see in Lieksa and its surroundings, especially nature attractions: Ruunaa area, Reposuo, Patvinsuo National Park, Koli. The Brass Weeks at the end of July offer high-quality brass music and a relaxed international atmosphere. Lieksa church is beautiful, as is Paateri church. The views of Lake Pielinen are magnificent. The city has excellently maintained green areas.

The real reason for the trip was to go listen to the Lieksa...

The real reason for the trip was to go listen to the Lieksa Vasviiikko concerts, which we listened to/watched three of. We also shopped to our hearts content at Asusteliike Nuutinen, which has become a tradition when visiting Vasviiikko. Great selection of lovely women's clothing, good service, and reasonable prices.

Lieksa is a nice rural town with a population of just over ten thousand and is centrally located when traveling in North Karelia. Nearby are the Ruunaankosket rapids, Koli National Park, the Raatteentie Museum, and it is not impossible to get to Raatteentie either.

In Lieksa, nature is nearby; there are many interesting excursion destinations here; Patvinsuo, Koli, Anäkäinen (also military history). I especially recommend Annukka's café in Nurmijärvi, about 26km from Lieksa on Kuhmontie. The Pielinen Museum is the second largest open-air museum in Finland, where you can spend an hour or two. Expert guides!

The camping area is located in a quiet area of Lieksa, offering beautiful views from the Pielinen lake. Personally I had a very good experience with the service at the camping place, as I made a mistake in my reservation and they help me to solve it. Kiitos! We were for work trip, hence have a table to work with a kitchenet and good beds to sleep was mandatory. A cherry of the cake were the beautiful views and nice walks we could do after a working day.

I really loved the beach nearby: it’s extremely shallow and with a nice sand floor, so you can wade and swim in a large area. The location is surprisingly close to Lieksa town center, and each cabin has a little fridge.

Breakfast was over my expetations. Even the hotel was very quiet, there was plenty of options on breakfast. Everything was fresh and tasty. Staff was very friendly. Room was ok.
