Lovely property a drive away from Ranua Zoo. This place is in the countryside, on a farm with dairy cows, and hosted by a really friendly family. The property is comfortable and spacious with all of the basics you will need (do go to the supermarket/shops before arriving as otherwise you have a long drive there and back). We slept very well, with no noise or disturbances (we were a family of 4, with 2 small kids). The sauna, overlooking the lake, is *really* something. Bring your swimclothes. Greetings to the hosts from Brussels!

A very spacious, clean appartment. Everything there that you need, incl. parking. Sauna was very nice. Directly on a lake, unfortunately no snow shoes to run on it.

The house was perfect. Very comfortable Living room, hot saune, spacious bedrooms...so much better than expected. We even had a Christmas tree :-) The location is close to Ranua (15 minutes by car) and Rovaniemi (1 hour).

Ranua was everything we imagined it to be.

Ranua was everything we imagined it to be. We got to witness northern lights and had some exceptional snow during our stay. The Ranua zoo wasn't all that great and the food in the wildlife park was very overpriced. But except that, Ranua was wonderful.

The staff and the many outdoor activities offered at a reasonable price make a longer stay worthwhile. The surrounding area is also interesting. Unfortunately, we didn't get to the zoo, which I hear is very worthwhile.

On the eastern side of Lake Simojärvi, there are some beautiful old-growth forests, although they have been visited too few times. Many of the lakes have beautiful, wilderness-like sandy beaches, which are nice to spend time on.

Apart from a few grocery stores, a cheap mall, a grill and a zoo, there is nothing else in the village. I strongly recommend avoiding Hotel Ilveslinna due to the untidiness and sloppiness of the place, there is nothing good there except the food in the bar. The food was also poor and tasteless, both at breakfast and in the evening in the restaurant.

We stayed at this traditional mökki in Ranua and absolutely loved it. The cottage was clean, cozy, and perfectly equipped for a relaxing getaway. The view over the Simojoki was simply amazing, the kind of peaceful scenery you can enjoy for hours. Our group of friends had a wonderful time here. The self check-in process was smooth and easy, and the location was straightforward to find. The host was friendly, responsive, and made sure everything went perfectly during our stay.

Our stay in the cabin was dreamy for both adults and kids. Outside there was a frozen lake, they had sleds for all the children, and in the evenings we peacefully searched for the aurora. Nearby you can go on husky and reindeer rides, and there’s also a zoo in Ranua. We also lit a fire outside and roasted marshmallows with the kids. The host also arranged ice fishing for us.

The camping is located in a nice place. The value for money is great - it is cheap yet has all the necessary facilities. You cannot expect more. It is a nice option to spend a night if you are travelling from the north or vice versa. Ranua zoo is a nice bonus to spend a few hours.
