Aubigny-sur-Nere is a very attractive and historic town and La Chaumiere is in the middle of it. We loved the building which is old and beautiful and has been wonderfully restored with every comfort. We booked an evening meal for convenience which turned out to be exceptionally good - really fine dining - but for a fraction of the price you pay in the UK for this quality of food and wine. The service was also great - both friendly and efficient.

A beautiful place with a lovely lady running it. Nothing was too much trouble and the room was large, spacious and comfortable with a little private patio to keep the dog from wandering. A bonus was a pool table in the huge dining room. Breakfast was pleasant, fresh croissant's, cheeses but no hot food. The grounds were amazing and beautiful. We would stay again without hesitation. A unique place in a lovely setting.

Location: across a very good Chinese restaurant and 3 minutes walking from other restaurants and the center of town. Host: we made a reservation on a Sunday afternoon for an arrival later that day. The host took care of everything although he lives 20 km away. The place is nicely renovated, light and clean with lots of appliances. It was at time of booking the lowest price in town but the best place we stayed during our 14 day bike trip.

This is the city were I grew up.

This is the city were I grew up. Came just for a couple of days to see some friends. Aubigny is now a very neat and charming city. Flowers everywhere, nice little narrow streets with beautiful buildings. This is worth a trip or stop for few days/hours.

A little town, not village!, in the middle of the Sologne, a...

A little town, not village!, in the middle of the Sologne, a vast wooded area south of the Loire, the only town in the region where everything is available, with a very peculiar Scottish history and heritage (read about it and you'll be astonished, hail to the Stuarts!) timbered houses abound. Very near to the Sancerre vineyards, Reuilly, need one say more? 'La Chaumière' is the place to be to spend the night, and have a very good diner. The chef has already a Bib-gourmand, don't wait too long...Aubigny sur Nère is about 30 minutes away from the autoroute, heading south or north (A 20 and A77), we just like to stay there to cut in half the long route from N to S and vv.

A charming little town with half-timbered houses and old...

A charming little town with half-timbered houses and old buildings, a charming village street with charming shops. The population is a bit rough around the edges, but this village is off the beaten tourist track. There's a very good Chinese French restaurant and a lovely boulangerie. Highly recommended if you're in the area. Or grab a cheap apartment while traveling.

A small Renaissance-style town that belonged to the Scots...

A small Renaissance-style town that belonged to the Scots for over 200 years. A rich cultural heritage thrives, fostered by annual exchanges during the large gatherings in July. It's a pleasure to stroll through the town center, where the shopkeepers are charming. A must-see!

Aubigny is a very pretty town, steeped in history. The locals are very welcoming. The surrounding forests are magnificent, with tall trees, ferns, and flowering heather.

Very hospitable, you immediately feel at home and welcomed.

Very hospitable, you immediately feel at home and welcomed. Everything was super clean, respect for our privacy, very helpful with everything. Good breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed it, despite one day of rain. We were there for three days.
