Small historic town, locally it is referred to as "the other Bruges in Flanders". Of sufficient interest for a weekend break, as there are four or five restaurants. Only 9 kms inland from Dunkerque.

Quaint town with ancient walls.

Quaint town with ancient walls. Lots to see and do in town and the surrounding environment. Great brewery! Nice squares with an impressive tower. A fun market enhanced the local stores. At least three good bakeries.

This is a lovely town house in the centre of Bergues.

This is a lovely town house in the centre of Bergues. Very unassuming from the outside but was a delight to stay there - modern bathroom and kitchen and well decorated, with a very thoughtful host who left us coffee pods for the coffee machine and friendly instructions/ need to knows for the property and surrounding area. We were travelling as a group of friends - two adults and two teenagers who enjoyed getting fresh croissants for breakfast each morning and exploring the beautiful town of Bergues which is steeped in history and character. A highlight was a meal on the market square in the evening watching local children play in the fountains; stumbling on a local beer festival and sausage eating contest and exploring the ramparts and history of the town. Can recommend the little “train” ride around the town. This stay was one of our favourite parts of our holiday touring France / Belgium.

Bergues is a beautiful little town, walled and moated, which simply oozes history. There's lots to explore and to see, and plenty of high-quality eateries. We chose our old favourite, "le Berquenard", which is actually a lively pub/bistro and next door to the B&B, but that's our choice as we didn't want a three-course meal, and like the liveliness of a French weekend! We weren't disappointed. Don't bypass Bergues: it is a real gem! The carillon is silened at night!

For me it is a place to start or end my journey through Europe. If going to the uk this still applies. A lovely small town with plenty of history and it’s close to loads of interesting places. Including Both world war battlefields. Also it seems to be being improved with civil works. So it’s lovely, historic, convenient. What’s not to like.

The old wall town is just beautiful, with lots to see. Interesting walk round the ramparts. Especially liked the Church of St Martin. Also lovely to hear the carrillon chiming the quarter hours across the town

I have stayed regularly at Au Tonnelier over many years and have never been less than impressed with their appraoch to hotel-keeping. The buildings are carefully maintained and regularly decorated, the faclilities are up to date and the restaurant excellent and good value with an excellent breakfast. The staff have always been unfailingly polite and well trained. This is my go-to stop both coming and going from France as it's within an hour of ferry or Le Shuttle.

This is a really nice apartment in a great town - we thoroughly enjoyed our time in Bergues. The apartment is nicely decorated and unusually well equipped - we had everything we needed for a short stay and found it easy to prepare food in the kitchen. It's on the ground floor, so no stairs to navigate and it feels very secure with window catches and shutters. The location is great, within easy walking distance of the centre and on a quiet street.

Very clean and well equipped apartment .we had never stayed this high up in the Western Front Battlefields, but location for travelling to Ypres and the French & Australian memorials was excellent. Bergues is such a beautiful place has everything. Waking up with our view over the old buildings was amazing. Thanks ❤️
