The owner was extremely helpful from the moment we walked through the door until we left. Stored our luggage so we could go shopping on our last day. A very friendly host. The room was a very good size with a very good bathroom with an excellent shower. The bed was massive and very comfortable. The decor was fabulous a great care was used with fantastic fittings. A great deal of design has been used. I would highly recommend this hotel for every type of traveler. We spent a full weekend here for the 80th anniversary of D Day. We would stay here without doubt again if we return to Cherbourg.

Besides the large two windows there were electric blinders that completely isolated the room from noise and light. Bed was large and confortable with a good desk. Toilet was reasonable with good shower and no leaks whatsoever. Breakfast had a good variety and quality. Staff very professional and nice. If coming back in Cherbourg no need to look elsewhere. Place is perfect.

Cherbourg is dominated by a huge harbour where your ferry...

Cherbourg is dominated by a huge harbour where your ferry comes in. The town itself is long from east to west, spreading out from the harbour. From north to south it is much smaller. The harbour area and the promenades are worth walking around and the central area at the Place Charles de Gaulle is the best area to relax in. It's also the ideal town from which to see other nearby attractions, such as a D-Day beach, the Bayeux Tapestry and Mont-St-Michel, all of which I visited. One word of warning - the French railway service isn't the best. The trains are subjected to many cancellations and delays and the ticket machines in the stations frequently refuse to give you a ticket! Railway problems aside, the town of Cherbourg and other parts of Normandy are worth a holiday and I'm so glad I went.

The Parc du Marais is well worth a visit as are the West Coast resorts on the peninsula. Best choice of restaurants and a pretty town to explore is Barfleur but there are good, informal, brasseries and restaurants all around. If you wish to go to Isle de Tatihou, pre-book. The ferry will be sold out if you turn up on-spec.

It was excellent with plenty to keep us busy for 3 days. We visited Cite de la Mer, enjoyed the general ambiance of Cherbourg, and finished our stay with a half day tour to La Hague area driven by the delightful and fun Agnes of Libellule Evasion. We only encountered helpful, polite locals and ate delicious local dishes and a few glasses of French wine. Do however download the Uber app, for some reason there were no local taxis available to contact on exiting the ferry terminal.

I love visiting this town.

I love visiting this town. Walks around the town centre for markets shops etc. Then a short trip oiyt past the Naval bas to the beach and the long coastal walks. I love the history, the old forts the magnificent Norman ability to build with stone. A drive to Barfleur for lunch of musseld and chips was another bonus. A lovely fishing port town off the beaten way with a choice of eateries all good. Exploring the small restaurants in te smaller villages and town is always rewarding . Remember the French rise early and lunch ends at 2 p.m. Skip breakfast and enjoy a leisurly early lunch instead!

We visited Cherbourg over Easter.

We visited Cherbourg over Easter. The town was buzzing on Easter Saturday with the food market and people out having drinks...very nice. Unfortunately in the evening there seemed to be a lack of restaurants open with the exception of a few high end places. We ate in the casino & also at our hotel, the Mecure. It's a nice place and a good location to see any D Day beaches/museums. You will need a car.

A really interesting town, great art gallery, and lots of places to visit around the town. It would have been good to stay longer but the weather was pretty bad so two nights were enough. The extensive road works around the harbour totally confused our satnav and the temporary one way systems were pretty difficult to negotiate. Loads of choice of restaurants all prices.

We were very pleased with this hotel and the customer service received, particularly by Caroline at the Reception who went and extra mile to find us a table in the nearby restaurant before its opening time :). Thank you! The room was clean and comfortable, the breakfast was great with lots of choice and fresh ingredients. If in Cherbourg, we would not hesitate to stay at the Ambassadeur again.

We didn't have breakfast - it's so easy to find somewhere for coffee and croissants locally! It's ideally situated between the ferry port and the train station, and it's so good to find somewhere as nice and friendly as the Hôtel de La Croix de Malte to find our "land legs" after the ferry from Dublin.

Always comfortable, clean, peaceful and friendly staff. It's a great location for being near the port. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. Breakfast is good with hot and cold options, even my picky son can have a good breakfast. Always our go to hotel if we need to stay in Cherbourg.
