The location and charm of it. Also liked that there was a toilet by each bedroom so we didn't have to go up and down rather challenging stairs. It was very clean and well equipped. The town was amazing, and the locals very friendly. Close to boulangerie and supermarket.

Annick and Christophe were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and warm with a nice view of the town square. The dinner and breakfast were delicious and very reasonably priced. There is a room where we were able to leave our bicycles securely overnight. Would definitely stay again.

Great little medieval town with an excellent guided walking...

Great little medieval town with an excellent guided walking tour provided by the Tourist Information Site and a fantastic costume display, "Le Theatre Des Costumes". There are only a few restaurants but those we ate at were great, "Les Pat a Da", and "Chaudron Magique" with medieval theme interior and menu. Good place to stop for a few days and walk around.

We fell in love with this village, its architecture, its winding and sloping streets, its gardens, its ramparts, its beautiful church with its baroque decor enhanced by splendid stained-glass windows, its cafes and shops, and the quiet warmth of its inhabitants. An amazing experience in many ways!

Honestly, of all the places we visited in Brittany,...

Honestly, of all the places we visited in Brittany, Moncontour was the weakest, and almost disappointing. The surrounding area is nice for hiking, but there's really nothing noteworthy to visit. For us, it was just a stop on the way to another destination.

The village is pretty but we were a bit bored there, because it's far from everything, a bit dreary, this village is listed for its historical buildings but lacks charm....(tarmac street, lots of unsightly signs, etc..... , I expected more authenticity.

Fabrice was the perfect host meeting us on arrival, attending to our needs and arranging for his wife Marie to check with us when we departed. The location in ideal for walking around Moncontour, close to everything. It is very quiet and has a lovely little terrace to enjoy the sunset from, or have an early morning coffee and croissant from the boulangerie, located about 100m walk away. The place is recently renovated with brand new appliances and is super clean. We highly reccommend the Gite des Forges.
