After a long drive from Calais, I was looking forward to...

After a long drive from Calais, I was looking forward to having a good rest and a pleasant stay. I found the hotel quite easily – it’s quite close to the main routes on the outskirts of Sedan. The rooms (for my small group) had been allocated, which helped. Unfortunately, all the rooms were a bit on the small side. The twin bedded room I was in had little room to move around and contained a table that sat in the gap between the beds so I could not get through. Moving it to the foot of the bed meant there was no room to move around anywhere. As I was sharing with my Son, it was clear it wasn’t going to work, so I asked to move rooms and did get moved to a triple room which gave us a bit more space, but not much. The beds are quite small too and my tall Son spent two uncomfortable nights. Additionally, the tiny shower room (no room to turn around in the shower and a toilet with no elbow room) had a problem with the drains...it smelled quite unpleasant. It’s a low-budget hotel that needs to spruce itself up. We went for a walk to see a bit of Sedan – the centre is about 20-30 minutes walk and ok for a night out. There is a Chinese restaurant and a bar about 5-8 minutes walk from the hotel, so it wasn’t too far out.

we were just passsing through The food in the restaurant at the castle was not good-very basic despite the menu, tomato tart was stale and dessert not well presented or tasty service very slow Breakfast was poor- not much selection and poor quality. Small basket of tiny pastries, no tomato or cucumber No decaff coffee available Taps in basin were wobblyElectric socket in room did not work, paper cups for coffee- this was supposed to be 4 star Such a shame-- a beautiful hotel but poor attention to detail and food offerings

Sedan was a nice city with a lot of character in places.

Sedan was a nice city with a lot of character in places. Some decent bars and restaurants. Good walk out through the cobbled streets of the hotel. Good stop over hotel if traveling to Germany or Italy.

The fortress is amazing and very safe to visit even with...

The fortress is amazing and very safe to visit even with small children. Also, the city is very easy to visit, in that the whole downtown is a few minutes' walk away and it's beautiful to stroll in and take in the French lifestyle. If there was one let-down is that the Maison de Patrimoine, the city's other important historical attraction in addition to the fortress, only opens from 14.00-18.00! This seems like unnecessarily late opening hours, esp. during the weekend! This means that one-night visitors who only have one afternoon free in the city should choose between the fortress and the Maison de Patrimoine and can probably not visit both, esp. if they are history buffs and want to take their time reading all there is to read while visiting these places. The same more or less opening times are valid for the other historical attraction, just outside the city- Le Musee de la derniere cartouche, i.e. the house-turned-museum, where a French army unit fought the attacking Prussians literally down to the last bullet in the battle of Sedan on Aug 31-Sep 1, 1870. This is a bit disappointing for the visitor, who will probably not have enough time to see these attractions and will have to move on to other nearby historical destinations like Verdun.

Friendly and welcoming hotel. Room was a good size with a very comfortable bed and a window seat to look out over the street. Quiet part of town and a good night's sleep. Great location close to all the main sights. We didn't have breakfast but had dinner in the restaurant, which had a cosy atmosphere, traditional French menu and tasty food. The owner/manager was very supportive and helpful when I twisted my ankle badly.

The apartment was very nice, with a large comfortable bed, a view over the river, and a small kitchen with microwave and coffee machine.. Parking was easy, directly outside, and free. Separate storage room for pushbikes. Distance to the centre of Sedan easily walkable, maybe 15 minutes. A couple of local bars less than 100 yards away. The owner was very friendly and helpful

Very nice and beautiful apartment with view over the castle. Probably newly renovated and very taste fully decorated. Very nice also with a surprise on the kitchen table from the owner. The city of Sedan was nice it self. Very charming and hopefully everything will be preserved for the future. I see a big potential for that town. :)

Location is a 10' walk from the center of Sedan, very comfortable. Instructions how to find and enter the appartement were sent during the day, well in time for our arrival. everything was as described and easy to find and use.
