After a long drive from Calais, I was looking forward to...

After a long drive from Calais, I was looking forward to having a good rest and a pleasant stay. I found the hotel quite easily – it’s quite close to the main routes on the outskirts of Sedan. The rooms (for my small group) had been allocated, which helped. Unfortunately, all the rooms were a bit on the small side. The twin bedded room I was in had little room to move around and contained a table that sat in the gap between the beds so I could not get through. Moving it to the foot of the bed meant there was no room to move around anywhere. As I was sharing with my Son, it was clear it wasn’t going to work, so I asked to move rooms and did get moved to a triple room which gave us a bit more space, but not much. The beds are quite small too and my tall Son spent two uncomfortable nights. Additionally, the tiny shower room (no room to turn around in the shower and a toilet with no elbow room) had a problem with the drains...it smelled quite unpleasant. It’s a low-budget hotel that needs to spruce itself up. We went for a walk to see a bit of Sedan – the centre is about 20-30 minutes walk and ok for a night out. There is a Chinese restaurant and a bar about 5-8 minutes walk from the hotel, so it wasn’t too far out.

we were just passsing through The food in the restaurant at the castle was not good-very basic despite the menu, tomato tart was stale and dessert not well presented or tasty service very slow Breakfast was poor- not much selection and poor quality. Small basket of tiny pastries, no tomato or cucumber No decaff coffee available Taps in basin were wobblyElectric socket in room did not work, paper cups for coffee- this was supposed to be 4 star Such a shame-- a beautiful hotel but poor attention to detail and food offerings

Sedan was a nice city with a lot of character in places.

Sedan was a nice city with a lot of character in places. Some decent bars and restaurants. Good walk out through the cobbled streets of the hotel. Good stop over hotel if traveling to Germany or Italy.

The fortress is amazing and very safe to visit even with...

The fortress is amazing and very safe to visit even with small children. Also, the city is very easy to visit, in that the whole downtown is a few minutes' walk away and it's beautiful to stroll in and take in the French lifestyle. If there was one let-down is that the Maison de Patrimoine, the city's other important historical attraction in addition to the fortress, only opens from 14.00-18.00! This seems like unnecessarily late opening hours, esp. during the weekend! This means that one-night visitors who only have one afternoon free in the city should choose between the fortress and the Maison de Patrimoine and can probably not visit both, esp. if they are history buffs and want to take their time reading all there is to read while visiting these places. The same more or less opening times are valid for the other historical attraction, just outside the city- Le Musee de la derniere cartouche, i.e. the house-turned-museum, where a French army unit fought the attacking Prussians literally down to the last bullet in the battle of Sedan on Aug 31-Sep 1, 1870. This is a bit disappointing for the visitor, who will probably not have enough time to see these attractions and will have to move on to other nearby historical destinations like Verdun.

Its not every day you stay in an ex Napoleonic Fort converted into a hotel. When seeing the hotel advertised it was eye catching to say the least. Then when you drive up through the portcullis and see the magnitude of the Fort from inside it is unbelievable, fairy tale. The scale of the walls is to behold. The hotel greeted by friendly staff and a fun room on the 1st floor overlooking the courtyard. The room had everything we needed for our short stay.

We arrived late in the night (after reception closed) and they made special arrangements so that we could access our room. Audrey on reception was so helpful in the morning when we thought we’d booked breakfast but actually hadn’t, she still accommodated us and heated some bread and pastries last minute. A comfortable, clean, safe hotel in a good location for a great price.

Nice hotel with a friendly manager who let us park our motorcycles in the courtyard, the room was big and clean, the bed was comfy, and the shower was great - the hotel was close to the medieval fort and not far from the town We didn't have breakfast so can't comment on that but everything else was great would definitely return

We liked the central location very much. The flat is spacious with sleek modern design, incorporating the old features like fireplace etc. The kitchen was well-equipped with all needed pottery and cutlery. We liked Sedan as a town a lot more than initially expected to!
