A great place to stay for a relaxing break.

A great place to stay for a relaxing break. Lots of great places to eat and buy food, and shops to browse around. The seagulls are quiet and polite as there is a £2500 fine for feeding them, so they are used to catching their own fish. Do walk along to see the fish stalls and the giant clam.

It's a small town so easy to navigate. Lots of restaurants and pubs but a bit pricey. Lovely selection of shops, especially independent ones. Good base for exploring the area eg Dunwich, Southwold, Orford and Snape. Beach was shingle which was disappointing but it was clean.

Aldeburgh is unlike many sea side places .

Aldeburgh is unlike many sea side places . There isn’t amusements or any noisy clubs or pier . There is a lovely high street with shops like joules and fat face etc , lovely restaurants one with a sun terrace looking across to the sea and an other one on the sea front with a veranda . All serving delicious food . There are two chip shops too . Along the sea front there are huts selling fresh and smoked fish and sea food . There is also a tiny theatre and cinema . Snape maltings are a couple of miles away where there are concerts antiques home ware etc It’s just over a mile walk to Thorpness which has a huge amazing boating lake where you can hire a boat or canoe . Aldeburgh is for people who like good food and walking . I

A bit smug, a bit self-satisfied, and there is an air of entitlement which I find baffling. Having said all that negative stuff, this is a cheerful little place, suffering the usual problems of young boredom, some very low key rowdiness, but the pubs are nice, there is a great Chinese takeaway plus some a good restaurants. I sound harsh because the town is much less miserable than one might expect in the current climate, but it has that slightly dead feeling of anywhere so dependant on Tourism. Venice suffers from the same!

We were there for only a day but would definitely return. It has an upmarket 'sailing fraternity' feel but has managed to retain its traditional charm and has a host of interesting shops including lots of good quality clothes shops.

Sited more or less midway between Orford and Southwold it is a great base for exporing the beautiful Suffolk Coast. The marshes north and south of Aldeburgh are lovely and are all dog friendly. Aldeburgh itself is very nice, but fortunately we visited in March and so it wasn't too busy with tourists or those having second weekend homes there. The stoney beach makes hard walking (compared with the sandy beaches I'm used to) but behind them are some great walking and cyling paths. We've been there several times, and will keep going back.
