Beautiful location away from the more busy parts of the Lake District. Haweswater Hotel offers excellent accommodation and food well worth a stay. Car essential lots of winding roads but worth it. Many places to visit within 30 minutes drive.

The road (4 miles) to Bampton from Shap is extremely narrow with few passing places here and there and has to be driven with great care because you can meet buses, lorries and farm vehicles. The road (2 miles) from Bampton to Haweswater is equally narrow and has to be driven with great care.

Haweswater Hotel is miles from anywhere so a lot of driving needed , as for all the Lakes I presume. Perfect if you want peace and quiet, great views and wonderful walks. Bampton village itself is very small with few facilities.

The area is quiet, accessed by narrow lanes all worth exploring . The hamlet of Bampton sold the cheapest petroleum for miles. Locals were delightful. Be prepared to travel for 30-50 minutes to reach other key locations in The Lakes.

If like me you are not a seasoned walker take the lower walk at the bottom of the reservoir which snakes around a peninsula and gives unbelievable views. Eat dinner at the Hotel during your stay the food and services are top quality. Weather permitting take time to have a drink on the seats at the front/side of the Hotel and just enjoy the peace.

Excellent base location for walkers who want to get straight out on to the fell. Haweswater and the surrounding hills are a perfect jumping off point for those wanting to join high street and other ranges in the lakes.

Firstly the location is simply stunning whatever the weather. We've visited twice in summer and in autumn. The property is very much in the 1930s style. If you're used to super modern city hotels this may come as a shock! The general ambience is cosy, the staff are all friendly and the feeling is one of more relaxed easy-going times. They've tried hard to stay firmly in the 1930s and I like it very much. Oh, and the food is top tier. Absolutely lovely.

Amazing views, incredibly welcoming and helpful staff, we’ve visited here three times and it really doesn’t matter which room you get they’re all wonderful, so clean and cosy, will be visiting a 4th time, the prices are higher than usual hotels but it’s very much worth it for the scenery and care that all the staff take to make sure you have the best time. The food is incredible too.

it was just perfection. The hotel itself is absolutely gorgeous, cosy, unique and comfortable and they'd made so much lovely authentic effort for Christmas. The staff were wonderful - just the right amount of lovely and friendly and leave us to it! Thank you - we will be back! xxx

Wonderful stay in this lovely Art Deco hotel overlooking a reservoir. Our room was large and comfortable with stunning views over the hills and water. The staff are charming and so knowledgeable and the food is delicious. A real find!
