FAQs about hotels in Birmingham

Top-Class Shopping, Culture and Sport

The UK's 2nd largest city, Birmingham is one of its top cultural centres. Well-known for the M6 Spaghetti Junction interchange, it is a surprisingly green city with lots of open spaces.

Most city centre hotels in Birmingham are near New Street Station. To the east is the futuristic architecture of the new Bull Ring shopping centre, and just behind is Digbeth Coach Station. To the west is Victoria Square, home of the town hall and a German Christmas Market.

The Mailbox is one of the newest additions to the Birmingham shopping scene, and behind it is one of the canals converging on the Gas Street Basin. By one canal are the ICC (International Convention Centre) and the NIA (National Indoor Arena), both venues that host major events.

Just opposite is Brindleyplace, a canal-front complex of restaurants, bars and hotels near Broad Street – the main nightlife area. It is popular with students at nearby Birmingham University, whose clock tower is modelled on the one in Siena. Just south in Bournville is Cadbury World, and there are several hotels on Hagley Road to the north, which are available on Booking.com.

The city is also known for sports – Aston Villa and Birmingham City are the top football clubs, while Edgbaston Cricket Ground hosts international matches. Other Birmingham attractions include Hockley’s Jewellery Quarter and the NEC arena by Birmingham International Airport.

Loads to see (even in December weather), with suprerb museums (City art gallery and Coffin Works especially recommended). Also many interesting places a short train ride away. We went to Bournville and Coventry but could have chosen Dudley and Worcester.

I liked the canals, the free visit to the Art Museum, the Birmingham Library with nice views from the 7th floor, and especially the trip to Lichfield, which is half hour away by train. A smaller picturesque town. Actually from Birmingham you can go anywhere by train, easily.

Short trip planned around the Xmas markets. There is lot's to see and do in and around the city. For all ages. Have visited many times over the years. Being pensioners now we use buses to get in and out of the city. Parking is ready avaiable in the outskirts and outside the Uluz zone.

The Hyatt hotel is on a busy street with lots of bars, nightclubs and restaurants. It has within a 5 to 10 minutes walk Birmingham library which is huge, Birmingham Rep theatre, Symphony Hall, Icc and Utilita arena which holds lots of concerts and events. Outside the hotel there is a bus, tram and taxi service which is a 5 minute ride into Birmingham City centre, which has Bullring shopping centre, a wide range of shops.

It was very busy on Saturday afternoon, there was a gig at the arena, I suggest booking for food or go early. Some parts of Brindley place seemed very low lit, outside Picolino for example. We ate at the Cosy Club, the food and staff was good, drank at Botanist, bar staff were good, nice cocktails, but it was fully booked for food and drinks.

The hotel is very conveniently placed, close to Birmingham City Centre and within walking distance of the local tram stop. The hotel is a little dated, but it is a pleasant place to stay and has a certain charm about it. The staff were helpful and the facilities were good. The staff were very friendly, breakfast was beautiful and the location suited our needs being perfectly situated near a major trainline for Birmingham city centre and NEC/Airport. Plenty of local free parking available without evening looking into how the hotel, pub carpark worked and priced to suit the accomodation.
