The town of Bo'ness looks pretty enough but for reasons I do...

The town of Bo'ness looks pretty enough but for reasons I do not really understand is almost completely dead - the town centre is barely open even during the day and one can only assume the adjacent Lidl and Tesco superstores have wiped it out. That doesn't explain the actual absence of most lifeforms and I can only believe that the term 'dormitory town' is almost a literal description! This is a shame because there is a fantastic park between the railway and the estuary, the world class Bo'ness & Kinneil railway attracts hundreds of visitors and there appears to be a good motor museum that I would have liked to check out. Something has clearly gone wrong - on a late summer evening, even in Scotland, the town should have been buzzing as many other attractive shoreline towns do...

Bo'ness is a really lovely town in which to relax.

Bo'ness is a really lovely town in which to relax. We had some excellent food there in a cafe, food@34a, with perhaps the best scone I've ever had in my life. There was also an award winning butcher shop, Thomas Burn & Son, with incredible food. Walking around didn't take up a lot of time but it was beautiful. Bo'ness didn't have loads to do but it was a short and inexpensive cab ride to historic Linlithgow where we visited for a day.

We stopped at Bo'ness so that my son could visit the railway. The museum is lovely with plenty of hands on activities. The location of it is great because we travel with a dog. The museum is nestled against a great cycle path that runs along the river bank. Plenty of dog walking opportunities. Playground too if you have younger children. There is a pleasant town centre and a good sized Tesco if you travel self catering or just needed supplies for your onward journey. We regularly stop for a visit to the railway whilst en route to farther destinations. On this occasion we stayed over to prolong our visit. Edinburgh and the Kelpies are within easy reach. A great location to base yourself to then explore further afield.

I'm afraid that Bo'ness has nothing.

I'm afraid that Bo'ness has nothing. I went for a walk into "town" but there is no town. One pub / restaurant and a tiny indian takeaway with eat in facilities. The town is pretty much completely boarded up.

Hotel was in a good location for sightseeing Falkirk, Stirling & Edinburgh. The 3 bridges boat tour from South Queensferry is a must, include the trip to Inchcolm Island. The Orocco Pier restaurant in the town serves lovely food and has amazing views across to the Forth Bridge. Friendly staff at the hotel. Room was very warm at night even when the radiators were switched off. Shower could of been better, water temperature was hot then cold.

Nice and quiet location in Boʼness, with a spacious parking. Friendly and welcoming staff. The room was comfortable and very big with lots of storage space. Bathroom was clean and well maintained. If you are looking for accommodation outside Edinburgh, but within 1 hr drive, consider this one. Perfect for 1 or 2-nights stay.

I called ahead till check if the hotel accepted dogs and where they were permitted in the hotel. The receptionist was nice and helpful , so I booked a room for 2 nights. The room was lovely but the mattress had seen better days .

Dog friendly but not the restaurant, had a table in the bar for dinner and breakfast. Good location between Hlasgow and Edinburgh, one of the better priced hotels around. Parking on site was a bonus.
