Perfect location for Dartmouth. Right at the Dart with lovely views from the room at the river. A 5-minutes walk to the centre and its restaurants and shops. Looking back and knowing the town a little bit, I would say, I would book it defintely again, when in town. Hosts are terrific and caring, the rooms are decorated and equipped with lots of love for details, I found even a little toothbrush in the drawers. Theres also a mini-frifge in the room and some snacks for free. Breakfast is a typical english one. There`s a pub downstairs, but it is not always open and closes early (9pm), so no guest has to worry about noises. For a later arrival dinner (8.30) I went to the Floating Bridge, a really nice pub, 3 minutes away, which has longer opening times. As I day trip in Dartmouth I would recommend a 2-3 hours walk along the river Dart, beginning close to the railway station, and running along the tracks the first 20 minutes, to Agathy Christys former residence "Greenway House", cross with the ferry to Dittisham, enjoy a drink, a pizza in the lovely pub "FBI" there, with views on the river (awesome funny staff!) and ride back with a cruise to Dartmouth in the late afternoon. A lot of reviews focuses on parking. The Ship In is offering a free parking permit, which is awsome, but the challenge is though, you still have to find a free spot on the public parking spaces, only five walking minutes away from the hotel. I followed the advice of the hotel, to arrive a little bit later, at a time of a day, when the day tourists have left town. Best after 5pm. Perfect advice! I arrived a little bit later, at 8pm on a sunday in June there were loads of free spaces, I was very relieved.

A superb waterside town with good local shops and amenities.

A superb waterside town with good local shops and amenities. The location feels safe and has a good selection of restaurants and bars to suit most pockets. Accommodation is going to be expensive compared to some other locations, but you get what you pay for (or at least you pay for what you get). Try to sort out car parking before you go - the big problem for Dartmouth is finding somewhere safe and convenient to leave your vehicle.

Out of season the Park and Ride doesn't operate and the only long stay carpark allows only four hours. This makes it difficult to do many of the trips available without very careful planning. For example, the round trip by river boat, bus, train and ferry was, for us impracticable

Dartmouth is a great place to visit - a lot of quaint unique shops. Beautiful location on the river Dart. Lots of different eateries/pubs/restaurants (shout out to the Dartmouth Arms for a fab steak and the Floating Bridge for an exceptional Sunday dinner). Good base to visit other local places such as Blackpool sands, Slapton, Totnes etc. Lots to do - Steamtrain over the river at Kingswear, river cruises to various locations.

The historic town centre, Bayards Cove, South Town and...

The historic town centre, Bayards Cove, South Town and Warfleet Creek are outstanding. Great character and charm, stunning harbour views, well-run boat trips on the River Dart and a fantastic range of shops, galleries, cafes, pubs and restaurants. It's a very well-heeled town with genuine star quality. But... the parking is a total nightmare if you arrive on a Friday. Its a historic town not designed around cars and you won't be able to just turn up in the town centre and find a spot. The park and ride around two miles from the town centre is a welcome facility, however the council's policy of creating a mobile app only payment system at the car park and no card payments means fiddling around with a very fickle and unreliable app which won't verify your registration details if the mobile signal is weak as it was for me, doesn't detail the chargeable period in the car park clearly leading to widespread confusion among a long queue of frustrated travellers when I arrived there. To add to the appalling cock-up of a system, there were people in a queue for the bus who had been waiting for nearly an hour! On a Friday afternoon. Its just pathetically inefficient and in a county which relies on tourism for a large chunk of its income. The Council in Devon have no respect for visitors in adopting this inefficient and discriminatory fiasco as there were older people trying to park in all of the towns I visited who weren't familiar with apps. The council are letting down Dartmouth and the whole county along with the businesses there. This parking frustration really put me off visiting Devon again. It used to be so simple to visit the county and park and pay. Shame on you all!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Dartmouth.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Dartmouth. The town is lovely with plenty of good places to eat and interesting shops. There are plenty of places to visit without travelling too far. The car and foot ferries are very efficient and the steam train is a a must, there are some lovely views of the river from it. I would highly recommend The Crafty Mussel and Taylor’s restaurant particularly if you’re a fish lover. The Floating Bridge pub is also worth a visit a well run pub, very friendly with excellent food.

The local independent shops are great.

The local independent shops are great. There are quite a few local attractions like the castle, and boat trips. Suitable for both families with children and adults. There is excellent bus , boat and steam train transport to other places. We only used the car one day. There is a wide variety of restaurants and take aways for all budgets. There is a Marks &Spencers food store and a Coop in the town , and also a Sainsburys on the road in if you want to self cater. The waterside is very well maintained has plenty of seating and lots of planting to make it look attractive.

The cottage was excellent. It is in a great location for the town centre and all amenities. Quiet location, although next to a car park which did not disturb us in any way. There is no car parking near the cottage, although as said before, you will find plenty of spaces nearby. The cottage itself was clean beyond belief with all you need for a self-catering property. It is an excellent property for two people who want to see all that Dartmouth has to offer. Would definitely recommend and would love to visit again soon.

Friendly and very welcoming host. Ideally situated. Clean, cosy and very quiet. Breakfast was lovely. It was and is a great place to stay and we'd definitely go back. We had our two dogs with us and Brown's was very dog friendly. Got up early to take them for walks and saw dolphins in the bay. Everywhere has dog bowls for water. Loved Dartmouth.
